Can anyone tell me why my knees are stiff and painful after being in the hot tub for 10 -15 minutes? For this reason I no longer use a hot tub, funny thing is that using a sauna is fine.

Not likely. It is difficult to give a flat -No. Lightning tends to strike the tallest object in its path e.g. a tall building, a tree, a flag pole. So, if you are in an exposed hot tub, lightning may strike you before the tub itself.
