Thinking about a hot tub?

george

I was wondering where do I start the process in learning about what we should buy and how we can buy a hot tub for our home. We have a perfect place in the porch, near a water supply. Is this a good place, where should we buy, online? So many questions and dont know quite where to start.

Answer
Have you looked on Craigslist for the hot tub? If not take a look. Look under FREE stuff. You would be quite surprised how many times people just want to get rid of their spas and hot tubs. Sometimes they are in perfect condition other ones just need a new pump or motor and that can be a cheap fix in relation to the price of buying a brand new setup.

Here's some examples in the Phoenix area:
Found: 4 Displaying: 1 - 4
Jun 28 - free spa - (mesa)

Jun 16 - Spa - as is - (Tatum/Jomax)

Jun 6 - FREE SPA/JACUZZI - (12TH STREET/THOMAS)

May 20 - Jacuzzi spa - (Desert Foothills Pkwy and Chandler Blvd.)

Should I fix my hot tub?

yomera

I bought a house that came with a hot tub "as is" (the price of the house did not include the hot tub, so it was free). It is outside. If I want to use it I need to call for service. I also read online that you have to keep it on all the time to keep it functioning. Those two things that I mention would cost me money which I wouldn't mind if I was going to use the hot tub constantly. Since I have two jobs (a full time job and I am also an artist) I don't have much time to just sit in the hot tub (I'd rather be painting). At the same time I feel I should use it since I already own it. What would you recommend? Is it too expensive to call for service and will it consume a lot of electricity even if I don't use it much? How much is it to have somebody check it? How much on average does it cost to maintain it? Is it time consuming to keep up with the maintenance? (I don't even water my poor plants!) What would you recommend?

Answer
Hot tubs must be maintained, just like a swimming pool would be. If you can't or won't keep it up then get rid of it. You maybe able to sell it (ebay, craigslist, some hot tub companies buy used ones), if you wait to long it will just get worse and it will be harder to get rid of.
Good Luck!

I have a hot tub that doesn't work and that is recessed into our back deck. We've decided that we don't want to invest any more money in making it work. How should we get rid of it? Even if we give it away on craigslist or something, how do we physically remove it from the deck without paying a lot of money for a crane to lift it out or ripping out the deck around it? Can you cut up a hot tub into pieces with a "saws-all"?

Answer
I'll assume it's not built in and is made of fiberglass. in that case they are not that heavy. you have to remove the decking around it.

How can I efficiently get rid of my outdoor hot tub?

I've decided to replace the above ground spa in my backyard with a garden. It's 15 years old, and it works, but we don't use it often enough to make the maintenance & cost worth it. How do I get rid of my hot tub in a cost-effective manner? Hire someone to take it away? Post it on Craigslist? If you've gotten rid of one before, how did you do it?

Answer
I operate a swimming pool and spa business. If you cannot give the spa away, hire a local handy man to cut up the spa and haul it away. My serious handy men can have the spa cut up and loaded in their truck in under three hours. Hope this helps.

How/Where I Could Find Out How To Repair A Hot Tub?

Lil Homie

Just about every day I see ads on Craigslist for free hot tubs. Assuming most of them are damaged, I would like to know how I could fix them, and maybe learn how to install them, so I can make some money. If there are classes I would have to take, or Youtube videos I could watch, any suggestions are helpful. I am a delivery boy, looking to make some extra cash on the side, and I feel like this would be a great idea.

Are the jets to the hot tub suppose to turn on by themselves?

We just got a hot tub off of craigslist so obviously no manuel, and never had one before. We've been using it with no problem, but throughout the day the jets turn on for about a few minutes then turn off. Then a couple of hours later it happens again. Is this suppose to happen? Or our we not turning off the hot ub correctly? When we turn it off the screens till stays on and says the temperature.
It's a Morgan hot tub if that matters...

Answer
I have a hot tub. Your tub will maintain whatever temp you set it on. When you hear the circulation (when not in use)it has lost heat and is heating back up. You need to have water flow over your heating elements in a hot tub. That is why it turns itself on. Perfectly normal.

I'm trying to find online a general price on home hot tubs/spas. I would need something basic, seating up to 6. It will go on our deck. Just looking for a very general estimate and also brand recommendations?? Thanks!

Answer
It used to be a lot of money, if you're lucky you could find one free on CRAIGSLIST. I see one everyday, someone somewhere are giving theirs away.

Can I cut my hot tub in half?

Caleb Prew

I am disposing of my own hot tub and the tub itself is too big to fit on my truck. I am thinking I'll get a power saw and cut it in half. (I'm throwing ALL of it away).
Someone told me it may be "fiberglass" and could be dangerous to cut up. What do you think?

Answer
You don't want to breath in the fibres. Use a appropriate breathing protection. Use safety glass , buy a pair of paper coverall, throw them out after your done. I would do all the cutting out side.
If I were you I would advertise you have a free hot tub , there will be someone over to take it away for you for free . Use online websites like Craigslist or kijijji . You might have a website for your local area.
I have got rid of many things by just saying its free. Saves me time and money
