Making a baby pool into a hot tub?

Beverly Ro

Hey everyone !

So it's summer and starting to get hot where I live, so I bought this like toddler pool I put in my backyard. It's actually pretty big and goes all the way up to my thighs standing. It doesn't look kiddie so I figured I'd keep it in my yard as like a lounge pool where me and my friends could just sit in when its really hot. So I sat around in it today and as it got darker outside I wondered how effing AWESOME it would be if I could somehow make it in to a jacuzzi !!! hahah then I'll have an excuse for having a small pool in my backyard with no kids.

So here is my question...

Does anyone know if there is a product that you can sit in water that creates a massive amount of bubbles, and better yet heats the water too ??? If it doesn't heat it Idont care, I just want a massive amount of bubbles. I know this has to exist because I know people put stuff like this in their bathtubs, but I wanna put it outside in my little pool haha.
Please help me cus this will be cool Thanks

how do i fix hairline cracks in my hot tub?

smokeyband

Answer
You can get fiberglass repair resin anyplace that sells car parts. Even Walmart carries it. You can also get a kit at boat shops that has color that you can add so it matches. The problem is that is if your hot tub is cracking, most likely it got too hot at some time. (Did you have to replace a stuck thermostat?) Most times if it got that hot, it will continue to crack over and over again.

Is this a good price to sell my hot tub?

Shawn

It's a ThermoSpas Concord Elite. Bought New in 2004 for $7800. It has 69 jets, 7 different jet types & is in good condition-never had a problem with it. My dad wanted to get like 3-5k for it. A lady will buy it for $2k.. What would you do? How can I talk my dad into it if so.
I have actually had sex in it. BUT it has a filtration system like no-other & we take the water out & replace it every week

Answer
Why are you selling it? did you have sex in it or something? if so i would give her a discount

I am looking for a bottom collector manifold for a Hercules pool filter.?

I have a Hercules pool filter and the bottom collector manifold has a crack in it. It spits dirt back into the pool because of it. I have been searching the internet and called a local pool company, but I have gotten no where. Blue Haven is also on the tank. The other stuff on the label are PHM-325, 50 P.S.I, 325 SQ. FT, 55 IN. Does anyone know where I can get a bottom collector manifold for this filter?

Serious paternity question please help?

Q. My last period was June 11th... On june 15th (the last day of my period) I had intercourse for literally 30 seconds in a hot tub and no ejaculation occurred for sure.

Well on June 22, 25 and 28 I had sex with my ex boyfriend where he did *** in me each time. I am now pregnant and I am almost positive that it's my ex boyfriends but I feel like there could be a little chance it's the other guy. Maybe I'm just over thinking. What do you guys think please and don't be mean!

hotel with hot tubs in New york city?

Noobsmoke

im look to get away for a day so can ask will be be my Wife

Answer
I don't know what your budget is, but the following hotels in NYC offer in-room spa tubs/jacuzzis:

The Avalon Hotel - 16 E 32nd Street - 888.222.8859 - Executive Suites have spa tubs

Inn New York City - 266 West 71st St. -

Stay the Night - 18 East 93rd Street - 212.722.8300

WJ Hotel - 318 W. 51st St - 212.246.7550 - King rooms have jacuzzi tubs.

These are all likely to be quite expensive. You might do better by getting over to New Jersey or out to Long Island for the weekend.

Happy travels!

Any romantic nyc hotels with jacuzzi/hot tub?

Bklyn03

Me and my boyfriend are trying to look for a hotel (preferably cheap, but I know its impossible in NY), that has a jacuzzi/hot tub, maybe even a fireplace or waterbed. And I don't mean the hot tubs in the bathroom. One that has them outside the bathroom.

Answer
Waterbeds tend to require "special" insurance so some high-rise hotel may not have them or just a few near ground floors.
You may get lucky with Inns, B&B and lodges.

Trump on Central Park West has jacuzzi
http://www.trumpintl.com/

Hotel Gansevoortâ on 9th Avenue has jacuzzi and fireplace.
http://www.hotelgansevoort.com/

Pines Motor Lodge on Taylor Ave has jacuzzi in the room a few feet from the bed.

Does anyone have a hot tub?

Someone near me is selling a hot tub and I was wondering what maintenance is involved. my dad says I will need to get a plumber to put pipes and such underground. I think i can just trow it on the lawn, fill it, plug it in and turn it on. who is right?
thank you guys very much, how would one generally move the hot tub? if i got a 20 dollar home depot truck, could men surrounding it pick it up, im guessing not.

Answer
First of all, does it work? if you don't know for sure, don't buy it. Hot tub repairs can get expensive.
Most hot tubs don't require underground piping, they just get filled with a hose and are drained onto the ground, or siphoned with a hose.
Most hot tubs require a flat, level base to sit on. Without it, any wood touching the ground will rot. And if the tub isn't given adequate support, cracks will develop. Cracks are very difficult ($$) to fix.
Wiring must be GFCI protected, otherwise you're putting everyone in jeopardy. Even it' a tiny tub with a "Cord and Plug" and a built-in gfci breaker, back it up by plugging it in to a GFCI protected outlet.
Most hot tubs require a 30 amp 220-volt power supply, without it, it takes a loong time to heat up.
The wiring has to be done by a "qualified" electrician.

Routine maintenance isn't too involved or expensive. Replace the filter periodically, clean out stray leaves, check and adjust the Ph level with relatively inexpensive testers and chemicals.
If it doesn't come with a cover, you'll want to get one.
If you don't always have two people to remove and install the cover, you might want to purchase a "spa cover opening system". It's just a metal tubing frame which attaches to the cover and the tub frame and makes it easy for "one-person" removal and replacement.

Wire gauge required for 240v hot tub?

Kosh

The control unit I have needs to be on at least 40-50A circuit (I would imagine it would be best to make the circuit capable of 60A).

What gauge wire do I need for a 60A circuit @ 240V where the run is around 75'-80' from the breaker box?

Also, information on wiring a 240v circuit into the box would be helpful (i.e. links to diagrams and tip sites).

There's a lot of conflicting information out there so I'm looking for some experienced opinions.

Of course, any links to sites where I can learn more about this would be appreciated.
Thanks for the good posts thus far.

One quick question - if I have a 60A circuit, it's made of 30A on each side, correct? So is 6ga required on both sides? Just want to double check.

I'm considering having a pro do the hook-ups but I at least wish to run the wire, conduit and new box to save on that end of it. Maybe I could get someone to cut a deal just to do the concections given this economy.
Irv, not sure what you mean about the "separate 6a bare ground". Do you mean from the panel to the ground? Or a separate run all the way from the tub?
I am not 100% sure I will hire an electrician. Although I very well may. It may take some time to find someone to work at a reasonable price but whom I can trust.

The reason for the inquiry about the wiring is that I will be doing some work in the attic so I'd like to run the line when it's convenient and get that part out of the way.

So I assume I will be safe using a 6ga wire with 3 conductors plus ground? Would I need anything else?

Answer
6 Gage copper, how many wires do you need, have you looked at the unit, it may be straight 240 volts so would be 2 number 6 copper wire with a suitable ground, if it was in my house I would pipe it up and over and drag a number 8 for an equipment grounding conductor.
Sounds like you should talk to an electrician and make sure before you spend time pulling wires you don't need, this will have to be fed with a GFCI breaker and have a disconnecting means some where around the hot tub.
You would be better off getting an electrician as there may be more issues around where you want to put this at to make it safe and if you find a good electrician he will take care of those so no one gets hurt, look in the code book some time you will be surprised at all the stuff that is in there that most people never think about when they do things like this..
the 60 amp breaker is a 60 amp breaker, a 30 amp breaker is a 30 amp breaker.

We'd like somewhere secluded but with access to amenities. And maybe some fishing areas nearby.

Answer
Allegheny

The Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa is a 2,200-acre luxury hideaway located in Pennsylvaniaâs scenic Allegheny Mountain region. The 216-room resort surrounds eight natural mineral springs which serve as the foundation for its world-class Springs Eternal Spa â one of only a handful of spas in the U.S. to utilize natural spring water in all of its treatments. Over the past 200 years, Bedford Springs has served as a meeting place for numerous U.S. presidents and dignitaries. The resort features a phenomenal range of amenities and activities, including an indoor spring-fed swimming pool; award-winning golf course; and casual and fine dining options from renowned Chef David Noto.

KOA

Nestled just a short walk from the banks of the Neuse River, this quiet campground is the perfect setting for a peaceful retreat. Enjoy a day of fishing or watch a beautiful sunset from the 100-foot pier. The boat slips, ramp, kayaks and paddleboats welcome campers who yearn to get out on the water. A catch-and-release fish pond and a group-outings pavilion round out this haven for extended relaxation. Browse the many antique shops and boutiques in New Bern, North Carolina and step into the past when you visit Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens, historically regarded as the most beautiful public building in colonial America.

Falling Waters

At our campsite at Falling Waters Adventure Resort in Bryson City, N.C., eight yurts - insulated circular canvas tents - overlooked Fontana Lake and a pond. Each was furnished with a queen-size bed and a futon and equipped with electricity, a private deck and a skylight for stargazing. And then there was the hot tub a few yards from our yurt. After unloading our bags (mental note No. 2: Don't go camping with a silver Diane von Furstenberg suitcase whose wheels get stuck in the dirt), I climbed into the steaming water to soothe my aching limbs.

The Can't Find It Inn, Waynesville, North Carolina

So named because of its secluded location outside Waynesville, N.C., The Canât Find It Inn is right by the Great Smokey Mountains and the suites offer California king size beds, mini-fridges, hi-def flat-screen TVs, and a wet bar. But be warned, this location is for adults only. Get your mind out of the gutter! It just means no-kids-allowed.

Falling Waters seems like a pretty great choice.

What is the cheapest cruise from charleston SC?

Kevin

Hi,

My wife and I are on an extreme budget. We are looking for the cheapest cruise from Charleston SC. We live in Raleigh nc and would be happy to go anywhere...but I think Charleston's port would make the most sense. Can you give me your opinion on what would be the best price/trip for these dates:

Leave around March 30, 2013 And come back to U.S. around April 5th 2013

I would love any advice. We had a friend that was talking about a cheap cruise but can't seem to find anything really cheap. Any advice??? Thank you in advance!

Answer
I live in Raleigh also and my advice is first forget trying to get a cheap last minute cruise; there is no such thing. Most cruises sell out and the price generally goes up and not down as you get close to the sail date. It's not at all like booking an airplane or train ticket.

When we cruise we drive to Florida, always a day early so as not to miss our cruise because of some last minute mishaps. We stay about an hour north of the port so that we can find the cheapest room and so that on cruise day we have just an hour or two drive to get to the port. From Raleigh to Port Canaveral is about a 10 to 12 hour drive and once there your options will be Royal Caribbean (2 ships), Disney (very expensive), and Carnival. ( http://www.portcanaveral.com/cruising/cruising.php )

Your options for lower priced cruises go way up when you drive to Florida because there are more ports (Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa) AND there are more cruise lines which mean more competition and generally better prices. ( http://www.porteverglades.org/cruises.php ) ( http://www.miamidade.gov/portmiami/cruise-main.asp ) The drive from Raleigh to Ft Lauderdale and Miami is about 13 hours but not so bad if you split it up doing most one day and then a couple hours or so the next. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE TO THE PORT ON YOUR CRUISE DAY. You MUST be on the ship no later than 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time and they do close the check-in booths.

I am an experienced cruiser; cruise 2 or 3, sometimes 4 times a year and found that driving to Florida is way cheaper than flying, even with gasoline prices and hotel costs. Yes you could drive about 6 hours to Baltimore, Md but then you'll get one of Royal Caribbean cruise line's older ships and the same for Carnival. The BEST and newest ships sail from Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale, and Miami.

Yes you could drive to the ports in New York and New Jersey but that from Raleigh is also about a 12 hour drive with LOTS of traffic and tolls. The selection of ships is much wider than Baltimore but still not like going to Florida. When you drive to the ports they all have parking right by the ship, prices range from about $15 to $25 a day depending upon the port. The prices for parking are generally listed on the port web site. Figure about $100 to $125 for parking by the ship for a 7-day cruise

You also get the best price by look for deals vs a specific date as you have indicated. Prices of cruses can vary by hundreds for the exact same cruise on different dates. So the BEST price may be a week or two, or a month, after your selected date.

Regardless of which cruise line or ship you select the things that are included are pretty much the same. The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals (including breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free room service), free admissions to all shows and entertainment, and free use of all facilities on ship like the pools, hots tubs, gym, disco, etc,. The things that you will have to pay for are gratuities (tips) alcoholic drinks and soft drinks, photos that you want, any tours from the ship you want to take, spa services like massages, and internet service. Gratuities will be about $12.00 per day per person and cover the cabin steward, waiter and assistant and the Matre'd.. Other tips are added to drink orders at a rate of 15%. You can book a 7-day cruise for about $750 to $800 per person. Shorter 3 or 4 day cruises are less.

Yeast Infection? Question!!?

Q. I have a few questions on yeast infection. (I have never got it before)
1) What is it?
2) How do you get it?
3) How do you get rid of it?
Thanks!

Answer
One of the most common female complaints, yeast infections are simply an overgrowth of the already present micro-organisms inside the vagina. Also known as "candida albicans", the yeast can get out of control for several reasons:

- Frequent sex which disrupts the Ph levels in your vagina (No, it is NOT an STD)
- Tight jeans, damp bathing suits, or other clothes that don't allow you the "breathe" down there
- Recent use of antibiotics (like amoxicillin, erythromycin, etc.)
- Recent or current use of birth control pills
- Diabetes
- Excess sugar and white flour in your diet
- Bathing instead of showering (or long periods in a hot tub / jacuzzi)
- In some women, it's simply part of an auto-immune response
- Not changing clothing immediately after exercise (and walking around damp)

Symptoms include redness and itching in and around the vaginal area. There is usually a thick, white clumpy discharge (that resembles cottage cheese... yuck, I know).

Most infection respond to over the counter remedies such as Monistat. You simple insert a tubeful of the antifungal cream before bed at night, and you will start feeling relief within 24 hours. If the over the counter product does not work, see your GYN to be certain that it's a yeast infection, and not a bacterial one (which requires different treatment).

If the discharge is greenish, or has a foul, fishy odor, it's a bacterial infection, and you'll need to see the doctor for antibiotics.

Again, this is a very common problem, that every woman has experienced at some point after puberty. Monistat should clear up the problem very quickly. It can be purchased at any drug store or supermarket.

Ain't being a girl fun???

How much would it cost a construction crew to make a 8X8 concrete base for a 6 person hot tub in columbus ohio

hayes271

I'd do it myself, actually. But the job shouldn't cost more than 300-400 bucks for the slab itself. If the code in your area calls for a ratwall, tack on another 300-400.

ive inherited a 13 year old hot tub perfect condition. I cant seem to find a "filter" persay.?

miss_click

My Dads passed away and Id like to keep this hot tub as pristeen as it is now. I cant find info for older hot tubs and proper maintence.. everything i do read tho stresses the importance of filters and changing them.. i cant find where 1 would /should go on this tub. Its the kind that has the wood skirt around it. Seats like 6 or 8.. i think the tub is 8x8 . At the bottom of the inside there is like a mesh round thing where the water gets circulated from, its a small wire mesh kinda cage. But thats about it, it catches leaves and such but not small debris like an accordian paper kind of filter would.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Ive looked all over this tub. There is a skimmer basket thing that you access on top of the tub, where leaves go in from the side thru the lil door thing (i know, im being techinical now) but that water in the skimmer basket goes no where. IM at a loss !!

help!

Answer
The skimmer basket thing is the filter. There is probably a screw cap on top of it or someway to get the top off and then the filter is inside the plastic cage thingy. Pull that off and you will find the filter. Make sure you find it and keep it clean, cuz that is the most important part of a spa. That water going to the skimmer basket is going somewhere. Make sure the spa is in pump mode to make the pump pull the water through and work properly.

What is the cheapest hot tub?

irene

What is the cheapest price I could get a hot tub for. I'm mean a durable hot tub that will last a while.

Answer
Depending on where you are in the country, and assuming you have a truck and trailer to move it, you can look at some factories in Florida. Sounds a little ridiculous, I know.

I picked up and 8 person hot tub from a factory in Florida for a friend. In WI, the spa place wanted about 5000 for the set up. We went down to Florida and picked one up from the factory for about 2600, then add in gas and beer money.

And out of all things, ROAD TRIP!!

Good luck.

Are Hot Springs Therapeutic?

Kebark12

Are Hot Springs really therapeutic, etc? Does anyone have any info on the benefits of a natural mineral water hot spring?
I have heard that natural hot springs help release any poisons or toxins from the body.. is this true?

Answer
I am sure they would..see the benefits of saunas and hot tubs and you will get some idea of the help you might get from this

here are a few things I found online

http://www.hotspringspool.com/images/UserFiles/File/pk_healthbenefits.pdf

http://www.livestrong.com/article/146809-benefits-of-hot-springs-spas/

http://www.hotspas.com/health_benefits_traditional_sauna.shtml

hydrotherapy is always useful; however, I would not count on that as the only source of detoxifying as to detoxify one must clean all the elimination organs not just the skin.

To do this you need to also cleanse the colon, kidney-bladder, liver-ga;; bladder, lungs, blood cleansing, and do a mucus cleanse. I would also recommend daily skin brushing with a natural bristle brush brushing all over and towards the heart. Definitely do this before entering into the hot springs.

also add hot and cold showers to your daily routine as done here

Hot and Cold Showers: (the most effective way to move the blood and create circulation ) Once daily, you must do a complete hot and cold shower. You will start with hot water for 1 minute, then cold for 1 minute. Re-peat this 7 times so the shower should last about 15 minutes. Another time, daily, you can do a complete hot and cold shower routine again or a partial one just applying the water directly to the affected area. Make sure while you are doing both hot and cold showers that you pay special attention to the affected area and massage it vigorously. If the shower is impossible then use Hot packs and Ice packs.

To do these various cleanses, I recommend the products and protocols of Dr Richard Schulze ,...the products are found at herbdoc.com and the protocols for some cleanses are found here http://curezone.com/schulze/handbook/incur5.asp

also check Linda Page's book detoxification for other cleanses and ways to cleanse/detoxify

What do you find more therapeutic? Hot tub or back rub?

Zorro

Answer
First hot tub and then a massage.
That's what I do at the spa all the time.
Money well spent every time.

Answer
Most likely he will be cited for trespassing and required to pay for the cost of sanitizing the hot tub, which can be very expensive depending upon the tub configuration.

Having sex in an apartment complex where anyone can walk up and see you shows real class and style. I bet your parents are proud to say you are their daughter.

Your own private oasis getaway in your own backyard?

Marci K

If you could design the backyard of your dreams. What theme would it be? Tuscan, Hawaian, Rustic, Natural, etc. With what ammeities? pool, outdoor shower, sauna, cabana, hot tub, firepit, hammock, ponds, waterfalls, dream bbq, outdoor kitchen, pergula, etc.

Answer
The first consideration is your location. The secound is your budget and the third is the amount of time you have to spend in your yard each week. Next would be what you prefer. Each person has a different situation to deal with.
Start with a map of your property and a list of your wants and needs. Start filling in your map with the items you desire and work tword those goals.
If your budget is limited, I would start with a seating area and Bar-B-Que. Next would come privacy (if that is a concern). Then any other major piece (a pool for instance). Themes will grow from there. Look at garden pictures and decide what you like or dislike about them. Just remember, a place filled with flower beds takes lots of time to mantain.

The design theme I would choose would rely heavily upon the climatic location of my home. It is difficult to grow lush tropical looking plants in an arid environment, for instance. Also, many plants that would provide the ideal tropical environment will not last in a northern climate.
Exactly what ammenities I would choose would depend greatly upon were my yard is located and my home situated.
I would have a Bar-B-Que with counterspace nearby (even if it is something that is stored for the winter). A dinning area or screenhouse (if bitting insects are a problem), would be included as would a comfortable seating area were I could entertain or just have a morning cup of coffee.
A pool would either need to be situated near an accessable bathroom or a cabana built nearby. Outdoor showers are a must in sandy areas to avoid a dirty spa or pool.
Hot tubs are great but in cold winter areas you will need to insulate under it and have a good insulated cover. Getting out of a hot tub into 4" of snow is an experiance you will not soon forget.
A pond with a waterfall is a must if you have a "natural" theme. Just remember that cold winters will necessitate certain precautions in order not to damage your pond or kill any fish. No goldfish please in any areas that may overflow into a natural stream.
In an arid area I would go with plants that are native and capable of providing shade, and color with a minimum of water. A desert scape with stones and only a small lawn area would do (lawns are water hungry). A southwest theme, Tuscan or Spanish style would work well especally if you provide a varandah or a large grape arbor (or use climbing vines) to add a cool seating area.

A warm southern climate would be ideal for that Hawaian them as would a gazebo. If you live in a wooded area rustic fits in very well. Think about a tire swing to add a touch of nostolgia to the country view.

No mater what theme I chose, I would recommend installing an underground water system to mantain the growth, watering cans are for potted plants only.

What is better for easing leg muscle pain?

Horse ride

I had two track and field meets today, and my leg muscles really hurt, and I am wondering which is better: a cold bath or a hot bath? My mom says a hot one, and she is a therapist, and my coach says a cold one, and he is a triathlon runner. He ran the Ironman triathlon and finished! So I am (pitifully) resorting to Yahoo! Answers. Who can tell me which one is better, and works faster, because I have to go to school tomorow, and right now I can barely walk, slowly, around my house. Please help!
and please don't just base it on your own opinion, give sources so I knów it's true please.

Answer
Cold reduces inflamation immediately. For Ironman triathletes, it is a NECESSITY otherwise they wouldn't be able to walk (albeit slowly) the next day. After an Ironman or extensive endurance workout (e.g. riding a bike 100 miles or running 22 miles) ICE BATH to eliminate and reverse heat damage and associated inflamation (but no longer than 10-15 minutes). Hot tubs are avoided for 7 days after an Iron distance or 1/2 Iron distance race.

A hot bath relaxes tensed muscles and improves circulation around musculature to speed healing, remove metabolic toxins and alleviate pain caused by muscle tension/strain. As heat damage is probably not an issue for you, I'd go with the hot bath and leg drains (propping your feet up on a wall at a 90 degree angle for 10 minutes-- squeeze from the ankles down to get fresh blood circulating into the muscles and metabolic toxins out.

-- or better yet, get to a swimming pool and swim easily (freestyle) for 20-30 minutes. In either case (Track meet or triathlon), swimming helps speed the healing process -- its called ACTIVE RECOVERY.

Hi are the 2008 lay-z-spa hot tubs any good and are they noisy?

prisonbrea

was wondering if anyone has got or had one any info would be great thanks

Answer
a very poor choice in hot tubs.

can you recommend a good hot tub?

George

Answer
It depends whether it is for children or adults or children and adults. It depends how much you want to use it.

for instance lay-z spa are good for children. It is a big inflatable hot tub with inflatable cushions.
AiriSpa is for adults. It is an inflatable spa for 2 people in the form of a regular tub.

Then, you got solid thermoplastic spas. Most of them are more for adults and they are great for people who have back problems, joints and muscles problems. That s lifesmart spas series. Those hot tubs are more expensive and less portable.

How to clean and maintain a hot tub?

Layla

We just bought a house that has a hot tub in the backyard. I have never owned a hot tub or a pool and I am completely clueless. It was sitting half full of water for who knows how long so I know it needs to be drained and cleaned. So what steps do I need to take?

How should I drain it? Clean it? Then after I fill it how do I maintain it?

Thanks!

Answer
there should be a drain plug somewhere near the bottom probably on a side at the front.
then yes, clean it w/ a mild antifungal, i use tilex.
then fill it and use the chemicles which go w/ it. a local spa store will have these as well as recommendations and possibly a way to test your water to suggest a start up formula for your chemicles.
then you test it about once a week until you know how it is going to stay maintained and emty and refill about every 2-4 months.

clean out hot tub?

boraborabl

my hot tub hasn't been used in years, has stagnant water in it, what is the best way to thoroughly clean it out...type of cleansers, type of sanitizer, etc...thanks so much!

Answer
drain, rinse soap and brush scrub, rinse, you can use cleaner with bleach for tough algae,if the sides feel like sandpaper, scrubbing with washrag and lots of pressure and alot of time it can be restored.get as clean as you can before putting more water in.don't forget to wax the sides to prevent things from sticking to sides in future, then i'd shock it and run jets for a couple cycles and see what you get.'

Where's a god place to throw a 30th birthday in Sacramento or Folsom?

Tera

My 30th birthday is coming this February. I live in Placerville, ca and I'm looking for a fun place to get about 30 people together to celebrate. I'm a female and the club thing isn't really my style. Bars are ok as long as its not super fancy or filled with old people. I'm looking anywhere from Placerville to Sacramento. I want to have fun and I want my guests to have fun!

Answer
I'm a Folsom resident and my 29th birthday is also in February! I'm not a big fan of clubs either. It's no fun having a party in February because it's not like you can go to a park and have a BBQ or a pool party. We usually just resort to bowling but that's been done to death!

If you go up to Tahoe (not in your desired area, I know but hear me out...) You can rent a cabin and go play in the snow! They have hot tubs, gambling, and places to go sledding.

If you can't travel up the hill that far, there are some unique party ideas depending on your friends or how many guests you'll have. Color Me Mine is a place in Folsom where you can sit down and paint pottery then they fire it and give it to you. I think you pay for the piece you paint and maybe a small fee for firing. You could rent out the place for the day to throw a party there and everyone can paint something for you.

http://www.colormemine.com/

If you want something classier you can go up to the Jack Russel Brewery and do some wine tasting. There are also those wine tasting tours you can do but I'm not sure how much they cost.

I'm in the military so a lot of my friends are into paintball. You can schedule a paintball party and just go Rambo on each other! Good for some laughs and the pain makes you feel alive (like getting a tattoo only not permanent)

Whatever you do... stay away from Dave and Busters. If you've been there and you like it, fine but I've never known anyone who thinks it's awesome. The consensus amongst my friends is that it's a total waste of money and it's lame.

Good luck and Happy Birthday!

Hot Tub Help Needed, Dodgy jets?

Q. Hi, we have owned this hot tub for over 7 years and all of a sudden about a year ago the hot tub will lock the settings and randomly spray the water from the jets everywhere with a lot of force. Also the temperature rises and falls with no reason. If anyone can help please write your suggestions, also i'm looking at fixing it myself so if theres any parts you think are broken let me know, thank you.

Here is the model Name: LA Spa Del Rey 12 Jets

Also here is a video of the jet problem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kYnLpJbbYI&feature=plcp

Thank you
'FAULTY' jets...

Answer
First problem: Your tub is not full of water. You should never operate the pump unless the tub is full.

Your video shows the pump catching prime (when the water shoots out) then losing prime and drawing in air (when the water stops) because the tub is not full of water. If you continue to operate the tub this way, you risk burning out the pump shaft seal.

From the 2002 LA Spas Owner's Manual:
When the system is locked, all system functions such as filter cycles and temperature regulation will operate normal but the control panel buttons will not function. The LED will display the message LOC. To lock and unlock the panel press all of the following keys within 3 seconds: JET1 key, - LIGHT key, -JET 1 key. Turning the power on and off will reset this function.

When you say the 'temperature rises and falls' do you mean the actual water temperature or the display on the control panel? In some modes, the tub may only heat during filtration cycles. Between filtration cycles the tub will not heat and the temperature will drop until the next filtration cycle starts.

You can find an Owner's Manual here: http://www.laspas.com/manuals.php

If you have additional questions or need troubleshooting assistance, feel free to contact me. Please, include the year the tub was built if you can find a date anywhere on the tub or control box.

How to repair hot tub cover?

nobadkids

My dog tore the vinyl top of the hot tub cover to shreds. I can't afford a new one right now. Any ideas on how to fix it up so it will look ok for a year or so? I was thinking about maybe making a design of different colored duct tape, but didn't know how that would look or hold up in the sun? Help please.

Answer
I work for a hot tub cover manufacturing company. I'm afraid duct tape would be your only answer. There is really no other way to put it back together. When you can afford one, ask your local spa store to find a "bone pile" cover that will fit your spa. They are much cheaper.
My company is Cedar Mountain Spa Covers, 1-208-772-9176 if you want us to find one in our stock and send you one.
my email is stefsnyd@hotmail.com
OR, you can send me measurements of your spa, and I could make a cover for your cover, is the styrofoam in good shape still? Because I could just sew the "skins" and send them to you and that is way cheaper still. Let me know.

Where is a good place to buy a cheap(er) hot tub cover?

Schoony

My hot tub cover is toast and I need a new one. Unfortunately the ones I have seen around my area are in the $400 range. Is there anyplace online or in the metro Detroit area that I could get a better deal then this? Please help!

Answer
Usually it is the tub that is toasty..ok that was a bad attempt at a joke, lol. I would put an ad in the local paper,"looking to buy" someone may have one from their non working tub.

how can I sell my hot tub?

I have a used hot tub that I just want to get rid of. Is it best to donate it or sell it?

Answer
If you just want to get rid of it, why not donate it to charity? What way you have a tax right-off for next year and the charity can sell it and use the profit it gets from it to help them. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

Liability on hot tub selling through craigslist?

BBdiddily

We just sold our hot tub through craigslist. It was in perfect running order and a few years old. We sold it for $800 The man who came and got it paid cash and loaded on a truck. He did not strap it down even though we offer to help him do so and provide the rope. He called me after he got home to say on of the paneling side flew off and busted on the highway. Now he calls saying the fiberglass sheel is cracked and that is had to have been cracked when he got it from us and that he is filing charges of fraud by trickery against us. We know that the man unloaded it by himself (this is a large 8 foot square hot tub). It was not broke, leaking, etc when it left our home. It was sold as is no warranty or gaurantees. Can he do this and what can we do. It is broke now so I am not returning his money.

Answer
Do you have pictures of the tub from the time before it left your hands? You are not a merchant for this kind of gear, therefore you are not responsible for a warranty as far as I know. When you buy something used from a persn who is not a merchant, you take your chances. If this guy sues you, which I doubt he will, bring in your pictures showing the condition of the tub at the time it left your hands. You'll also want to testify that you offered to help him tie the thing down, but that he refused your offer. Also, there is a famous legal concept called "buyer beware." If the shell was cracked, it was his obligation to inspect the thing before he took delivery from you. When it comes out that he took the thing from you and did not tie it down before he drove away, he will look like a fool for suing you. I would not worry about this.

great lakes hot tubs?

rthinkle

Answer
NO! (OK YES) They went bankrupt(we think) a few years and were purchased by Emerald Spas. I use to sell Great Lakes and they really fell behind the other companies with their designs about 5 years ago. Now they are better with the new ownership but still why not spend a little more and get a premium line that will be from a company that will there in the future. Hot tub manufactures are dying because no one is buying them. Sales are dramatically down over the last 3 years. Many are closing up and the dealers are suffereing from the cheaper tubs on the net. DON'T buy Chinese that are not coming over here.

(EDITED!!) 6 years ago I liked GL.

Amazing what a day makes. Yesterday I saw a Great lakes tub that was only 2 months old with a simple blown fuse that sometimes happens. It was a neighbor of a tub I was working on. I checked out the GL7 and it had enough pumps and jets to make me fall back in love with the company. Decent packs, good construction. So I have just done a 180.

Just be careful on your dealer...make sure they will be there in the future.

hot tub jet replacement?

Jennifer P

I need to get some hot tub jet replacements in Des Moines, Iowa however I dont have a model number or name. they are generic and the hot tub doesnt have a "name" either. My husband bought it years ago and now we cant find the man that sold it to him. Where/how can i find replacement jets?

Answer
Can you remove one of the jets? If so, take one to a reputable pool and spa store. My local pool supply has been invaluable over the years. They've saved me thousands of dollars by telling me what I needed, even when they didn't carry it.

Hot-tub Chemicals?

Q. I have looked on alot of sites and I cannot find what I am looking for. My question is what chemicals do you use in a hottub to make it sanitary? and also how do you shock a hot-tub? 10 points to whoever is the most helpful, please list all of the chemicals.

Thanks

Answer
try these out. there are many choices for sanitizing.

Mineral Sanitizers,

chlorine,

bromine,

Ultraviolet UV Sanitizer, Sanitizes with UV rays instead of chemicals.

ionization-oxidation systems, proven to eliminate bacteria, algae, and most viruses.

Install an ozonator for cleaner water. Ozonators convert oxygen into ozone.

Shocking a spa or hot tub refers to the application of non-chlorine shock or hydrogen peroxide. The purpose is to break down the combined chlorine, organic waste and contamination. Products such as sodium dichlor and non-chlorine shock are used for this purpose, with spas utilizing chlorine, bromine, ozonation, ultraviolet treatment, mineral purifiers or ionization.

try this for the shock treatment, Oxy Spa Non-chlorine MPS spa & pool shock

Does anyone know anything about Durasport Hot Tubs?

Chris

Hello,

I am trying to get a hot tub without breaking the bank. The industry seems kind of esoteric but Ive done extensive research and found a brand called Durasport (which also goes under Strong Spa and other manufacturers)

The good it it seems to be exactly what I want- a 4-5 person spa that is relatively easy to move and cheap- and it is plug and play AND if things work out it can be rewired for 220 volts for better operations. But I cannot find any reviews online- Amazon doesn't sell these- wayfair only sells one model (I think) and google for once can't help me out.

So if you know anything about Durasport (rio specifically) or any other spas similar to described above let me know.

Digest version: does anyone have this hot tub- how does it work http://www.walmart.com/ip/21464895?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=3&adid=22222222227015461270&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40296236350&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=38871602590&veh=sem

Thanks!

Where is the cheapest place to buy a hot tub or outdoor spa? They all seem so expensive…?

Sandra

Answer
Try www.hottubspasaver.co.uk - cheapest hot tubs, good prices on pool/spa chemicals and accessories too

what pump do you use to drain outdoor hot tub in deck ?

fbfriends

I have 400 gallon hot tub that needs to be drained and I would like a pump that can empty it within 15-20 minutes (i.e. ~1600 gpm). i plan to drain the hot tub every 3 months. FYI, i have seen some that have top handles to easily place the pump into the hot tub and it seems like a nice feature.

please provide specific make and model of the submersible pump you use to drain your outdoor hot tub. if you have a web link to a site which sells them, please list that also.

would like to spend less than $100 on a pump if possible.
i meant 1600 gph . my apology.

Answer
You can buy a cheap garden hose a Walmart for less than $10. Siphon!!! It`s a little slower, but it`s a lot cheaper and nothing mechanical to breakdown.

Where do I drain my spa/hot tub water to?

blahmeiste

I need to drain my spa/hot tub for the first time ever, but I don't know where the drained water needs to go. The street seems best, but I can't see a sewer gutter grate anywhere (I'm sure it exists but not sure how far from our house). Grass is a no-no. Not sure about just using the bathtub (would it hurt the plumbing, all those chemicals?). Any ideas? Looking for responses from people who have done it before, not guesses please. I already called the store where I bought the tub and they said grass would be just fine, so that's apparently not a good source of info. =\

Answer
it would be best to send it down the drain. a floor drain would work better than the tub, because they generally have 3 or 4 inch drain pipes rather than 1.5 or 2 inch from a tub. and no, the chemicals in a spa or hot tub are not near corrosive enough to hurt modern plumbing. toilet bowl cleaner and clog remover are substantially more corrosive. I would not recommend draining it in the grass unless you have a french drain in your yard, otherwise you are headed strait for a swamp in your yard. the water will take a long time to seep into the yard unless you are situated on a hill that will help to spread the surface area with out making a pond. if you do have a french drain, then it will most likely end up in the same place as if you were to discharge it on the road. roads are built to avoid pooling so if there is a curb, the water will just travel down hill until it reaches a storm sewer.

Can you use chlorine in a hot tub or spa?

Don't Spoo

My friends have a hot tub. I'm not sure what they put in the water, but it always dries out my skin and makes it itchy. I have an in ground pool that I swim in all the time and have none of these skin issues. Can you use the same chlorine that you would use in a pool in a hot tub?

Answer
The chlorine would be the same but its form would probably be different. They may be just throwing a bunch of chlorine in without checking the level. There are 2 things that need to be checked OFTEN with a hot tub: chlorine or bromine (3-5 ppm) and pH level (7.4 to 7.6 is ideal). Either one can cause your skin to do strange things. Hot tub water will often become acidic and needs to be adjusted down (baking soda is a cheap solution) or alkaline and needs to be adjusted up using a mild acid. It's also good practice to shock the tub about once a month (10 ppm chlorine/bromine) to kill off any really resistant nasties and help sanitize the piping, pump and jets.

If they don't have a test kit they need one or they can borrow yours assuming you check your pool regularly. They also need an adjustable dispenser for chlorine/bromine sticks and with a little trial and error can get it set to dispense the right amount consistently. I've installed and maintained pools and tubs and there's nothing worse than feeling worse getting out of one than getting in.

Good Luck!

I have an Hot Springs hot tube. The 20 amp fuse in the house keeps blowing after the jets are on for about. 3?

Rocky

The tub trips the 20 amp fuse in the house not the 20 amp gfi after the jets run for about 3 min. I have replaced the fuse in the house.

Answer
go to 30 amp fuse, that is the max for #12 wire, so you will still be safe.

Please give me the 10 points for best answer!!

How do you to hook up a 220 wiring for hot tub?

Ally Kites

We we're given hot tub a few weeks ago but we dont know how to hook it up. It's a 220 wiring. Anyone know how?

Thanks.

Answer
There are a lot of codes that need to be followed for any certain hot tub installation, application.
Most electric hot tubs needs a #6awg, 3 wire+ground, on at least a 50 amp breaker.
In a lot of cases, this will need to be a G.F.C.I. breaker (2 pull, 230 volt).
With some tubs, there will have to be a rain-tight disconnect added, if the breaker is not within sight of the tub.
This can be done in a variety of ways.
Other tubs will not need a G.F.C.I breaker because the internal control board has a built in GFI.
Your best bet, with all of the code variations allowed, is to get a experienced Electrician to walk you through what is required with your application, in your area.
PS... a 30 amp will likely not "hold" if it is a full size, all electric hot tub.
Also, #8-3+g, non-metallic, sheathed cable (Romex) is rated for 45 amps.
#6-3+g (Romex) is rated for 60 amps. You can under-size the breaker,
but NEVER oversize the breaker
Open the controls panel and check out the paperwork for the electrical requirements and give a local hot tub retailer a call and see if they have a line on a "experienced with hot tub installations "Electrician", that they know of.
Sorry to say I can't gve more info.
Your tubs location, installation and the state you live in will have a lot to do with what is allowed and what is not.
Good luck.

Hey does any one know where I can get a nice cottage rental on Lake Willoughby in Vt?

Q. Im looking for a nice cottage, hopefully with a jacuzzi or hot tub and i want it for a reasonable price for a long weekend. Thanks!

Answer
Don't know where you've already searched. Tried visitor/convention/state travel sites? It's been a long time since I've been by Willoughby and I'm sure there is more now than 35 years ago. Then though it was pretty sparse. We used to stop at one of the cold springs on the west side of the lake; route 5A if I remember correctly, on the way to visit family near Sherbrooke, Quebec. Good luck.

When choosing a ski resort to go, what are your focus or concerns?

Happy day

1. The number of runs and trails
2. The views.
3. Lift ticket prices.
4. Lodges
5. Ski areas and the terrains.
6. The general snow condition
7. Easy access to the ski resort.
8. Food and the restaurants.
9. Night life around the ski resort
10. Whether it's crowded or not.
11. Other

Answer
When choosing to go to a place I've never been to before I take several things into consideration.

I look for terrain and the number of runs first. I want a good trip with lots of variation.

Distance is the second thing I look at. I'd love to go to Tremblant tomorrow, but It's a heck of a drive and I don't feel like flying to Quebec.

Crowds suck. I avoid most big resorts on weekends...I avoid my own resort on weekends...and it's small. Mid-week is the time to go, but you might have to put up with closed lifts and trails.

I really don't take much else into consideration. I rarely stay on resort property, so I know I have to drive to get to the resort from my hotel. As long as I can reasonably walk to the lodge or get a shuttle...I'm cool with that. I don't really care about the nightlife. If I stumble upon a good parrty, great...if not I'm quite content to turn in early. Same thing for food. As long as I can get some food I'm happy. I generally bring a lot of my own food if I am driving to the resort anyway. I try to find a place to stay that has breakfast at the hotel. I eat a light lunch...sometimes just a ClifBar and some trail mix, and then look for good eats after I'm done. Unless I'm flying and getting an airport shuttle straight to the resort...then I have to take my food options more seriously. I'm not picky about hotels either...as long as they have a hot tub. But I've also slept in my truck in the parking lot of Jay Peak and pitched a tent a mile or so outside of Steamboat Springs.

Cost is always the monkeywrench in my planning. I'll ski at a crappy little hill if I have a comp and it's not going to cost me a boat load to stay overnight or travel a long distance.

Case in point: I'm going to VT next week for 3 days. I have two comps for Smuggler's Notch and an almost free day at Mad River Glen. I could go to Windham NY (also free) and skip getting hotels...but the skiing is better at Smuggs and Mad River. I also have comps for two places in western NY state. I doubt I'll go because the drive there isn't worth it for the tiny hill, yet I'll pay $25 to ski at a hill of slightly larger size but only 1 hour away from my home. So while the tix are cheaper at one place, it'll cost me twice as much just to get there. I think I would only pay Top Dollar for something like "A Day with Glen Plake" or "Drink and Ski with Bode Miller."

There are a few other things I look for as well, but they're sort of a tack-on..nothing I base my trip on.

Lessons: I'm always up for learning new stuff, so what kind of free or cheap clinics are going on? How much do they charge for advanced lessons?

Demo Center: I love riding other planks. Does the resort have a demo center? If so, how much to go play on different skis? (This is a must if I'm flying. I hate checking my skis. For $30 a day, I'll use demos rather than put my planks on the plane....If you race, this isn't an option...you'll want your skis.)

Looking to purchase a hot tub and evaluating 3 brands Hotsprings, Jacuzzi, and Sundance recomendations?

dkarn

Trying to find a quality product that is energy efficient and low maintenence

Answer
First go sit in all three when they are empty. Check out how much leg room there is , and how many jets there are for
each seat. The larger the hot tub is, the more it will cost to
heat it. Is it 110 volts or 220 volts, 220 is cheaper to run, but you may have to have new electrical wiring run by an electrician. How many people will be using it at the same
time ( back to size and cost ), trust me you don't want to
try to have 5 people in a 4 person tub. Check the Energy Star
rating, or ask the sales people for something showing how
much energy the unit uses.
Find out how long all components are under warranty, not just
the tub itself, the pumps, the jets, the water lines, etc.
Don't be afraid to ask, compare all three, don't rush
Jacuzzi and Hotsprings are both reputable companies, I don't
know about Sundance.

How much to move hot tub 2-3 feet out and take out motor?

PlayinDaGa

Hi. I have a hot tub/spa in my backyard that I need to have moved out about 2-3 feet and then need to take the motor out to replace the motor too. I plan on hiring about 4 guys to do it, from the local Home Depot, how much do I need to pay each person for this service? $100? Should be done in about 2-3 hours, I would believe.

Answer
If the hot tub was installed properly, the plumbing and motor should be accessible by removing the front cover only. Sounds like it's not installed properly though. $100 is probably fair, but it shouldn't take 4 guys.

Cal Spas Pricing in Indianapolis?

Jim T

We are set on purchasing a Cal Spas A857B hot tub. The Watson's dealer in Indianapolis lowered his price from $7,999 to $7,000. I'd like to know if this is a good deal, as it has been very tough to compare prices with hot tubs.

10 points best answer!

Answer
Unfortunately, there is really no way to tell how good a deal you have.

A lot of the cost of a hot tub or spa comes from the installation, so you want to make sure that you buy from an authorized dealer. So, I did a search for you, looking for authorized Cal Spa dealers, and, guess what? Watson's is the only one anywhere near Indianapolis. I was going to suggest that you get prices from other dealers, but you obviously can't do that.

In your situation, the only way you can judge the price is to look at other brands of spas. I'd walk in blind, tell them that you are looking at hot tubs (at $7000, you are looking for high-end models), and ask what they can offer. Even if you are set on the Cal Spa, it helps to see what else is being sold. If another brand with more-or-less comparable features and quality is a lot less, then Watson's probably has some negotiating room.

I did something similar recently when we bought a new garage door. The door we liked best was $1800. Home Depot was half that, but their door was not nearly as good. Then we got a bid from another place for an equivalent door at $1500. We went back to the place we liked, and they lowered their price to compete.

That's what you should try. Of course, if the other dealers are all in the same price range, then you are getting a fair price, and you can go ahead and order the Cal Spa with confidence.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Answer
I have a Cal Spa. It is under warranty and has been broken now for nearly 9 months. And, yes, the initial damage was covered by the warranty (there is now collateral damage caused by the hot tub being non-functioning as well). They have not been able to repair it and the refuse to refund or replace it so we are now having to take them to court. Please read the numerous similar stories on ripoffreport.com before you consider buying anything from them.

Do you know how I can find a nice cabin in PA Mountains?

moneymaker

6 of us want to go to the PA mountains that are closer to Pittsburg (Altoona area), and stay for 3 nights (from Dec. 30th to Jan 2nd). We want to get a house(or cabin) with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, fireplace. Something like a hot tub would be nice, maybe even a pool table, grill... Close to a mountain (we love to ski, and snowmobil)

Looking all over the web, and cannot find anything! Does someone know how to look for that sort of stuff? Please help.
Went to 7springs.com, and everything is booked!
