hot tubs 2 buy image

Layla
We just bought a house that has a hot tub in the backyard. I have never owned a hot tub or a pool and I am completely clueless. It was sitting half full of water for who knows how long so I know it needs to be drained and cleaned. So what steps do I need to take?
How should I drain it? Clean it? Then after I fill it how do I maintain it?
Thanks!
Answer
there should be a drain plug somewhere near the bottom probably on a side at the front.
then yes, clean it w/ a mild antifungal, i use tilex.
then fill it and use the chemicles which go w/ it. a local spa store will have these as well as recommendations and possibly a way to test your water to suggest a start up formula for your chemicles.
then you test it about once a week until you know how it is going to stay maintained and emty and refill about every 2-4 months.

How much on average does it cost to get an electrician to hook up a hot tub?

I got a new hot tub and the manual says I need a professional electrician to hook it up. I have gotten a few estimates but I dont want to pay anymore than I have to so I was wondering what is the average price of this and if anyone knows how to find someone that will do it for a lot cheaper if possible. Any help would be great thanks :)

I just ordered a new hot tub and have this same question. one of my friends is an electrician and he wrote me up a part list of all the things I would need. my hot tub is ~60 from my electrical panel and right next to my house. the total cost of all the materials I had to buy at home depot was $400. this includes a GFI for the circuit breaker ($94), about 100 feet of 8x3 wiring (almost $200) and misc stuff like a disconnect box ($7) PVC wiring and stuff. so depending on how far you need to go from your electrical box it will dictate how much it will be. now that was just for parts... my friend said he would charge like $1400 to do it, so about $1000 labor. that's for 2 guys to do it in 3-6 hours. so ya, it will cost quite a bit if you have someone do it for you. now this is to have it all done to code for 220V, im sure you could do it for slightly less if you skimped a bit and didn't have it to code, but I wouldn't want to..
