Honeymoon in Maine...?

just me

Thinking of taking our honeymoon in Maine..have never been to the east coast... Want something nice, but doesn't have to be super fancy...(sort of on a budget) Would like to go up to Prince Edward Island (would I need a passport for that??) Would like room to have a hot tub in or just outside of room...Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Don't know where you live, nor when you are getting married, which would help. Anyway, Portland, ME is one of America's most charming and preserved small cities. And, like that other Portland in OR, a center for great microbreweries and fine seafood (some airline ought to start a Portland to Portland gustatory shuttle service). Try to get a B&B room near the Old Port section. There are ferries to harbor islands. For a change of pace you would also be only an hour or so from some lovely New England countryside towns like Fryeburg and Bethel, also rich in B&Bs and inns with mountain hiking and warm lake swimming close by. If your nuptials are in late September or early October they will be timed for the height of foliage season. I advise against Prince Edward Island - it is a long schlep and flat and nothing much to see either there or in New Brunswick (but you can practice your Acadian French). If you must make Canada part of your bliss go to Montréal instead!!! One great and wonderful place. (And, no, you won't yet need passports if you are driving - yes if you fly - but having them is highly recommended).

If you are doing a summer trip the problem with Camden, Bar Harbor, et. al. is that the tourist traffic on Rte 1 - the only road - can be just awful and some stretches are tacky.

Hint on eating your "Maine" lobstah (actually 80% of what sells as Maine lobster is caught in Québec and the Maritimes) and chowdah: don't go to expensive tablecloth places but rather to seafood shacks. Just as delicious at much less cost.

Another tip: If you are flying into New England and renting a car take cheapo Southwest into Manchester and avoid the horrendous traffic of Boston's Logan. Manchester is a little closer to Portland as well. (Make sure your car is insured for Canada if you intend to go there).

Thinking about taking a trip to canada?

I am looking to go in the summer, 2 adults, 1 teen, 14, boy. I was not sure about where to go. I was not sure between Toronto, Niagara falls, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, or Vancouver. Now, I don't carwash about flying or driving, and I live in pa, so Niagara, Toronto and Montreal would be ny closest options, I just want to know which one is Thebes to visit I the summer. Would like to do out door activities, and go back to a hotel and relax in a hot tub. If you could help, That would be great!!! Thx!!!

Answer
I would go to British Columbia.

Either Victoria or Vancouver. Maybe even split your time between the two.

Montreal is more of a European social sort of a city. Niagra is very touristy. Calgary is very nice, but not particularly exciting. Winnipeg I never got the chance to go to, so I cannot say: I'm excited to visit there myself. Toronto is a very large spread out city with nothing much to do outdoors-wise for about 3 hours away from the core.

Vancouver and Victoria however are very much in the middle of some of the most beautiful landscape around. I think you will also find that being smaller than most Large metropolitan cities makes them easier to get to know and easier to get around in. You can go visit mountains, hot springs, do some of the finest mountain biking in the world, visit waterfalls and pristine lakes, there are lots of relaxation type places and the general area has a friendlier (especially Victoria) and more comfortable atmosphere.

I honestly cannot think of a single thing to do in the city of Toronto that you cant do in Philidelphia or New York city, or Boston, or any other city in the world.

I have lived in Toronto for almost my whole life, but I have travelled a lot in Canada and spent extended periods of time in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta.
