I have just taken down my frame pool as fed up not being able to use it as always cold , am looking at getting a hot tub , but am worried about the cost ,Buying its ok , have budget of 3.000-5.000 , am only looking at a single pump 2-4 seat-er , nothing huge , maybe 3kw heater , every Hot tub shop I go to tels me 50p -70p a day max , yet people that have them that I know are telling me 30 pound a week , anyone got a hot tub and how much is it costing a week / month to run ? , Im aware size and model will vary in running cost but just after a ruff idea to see if its gonna be affordable ( I live in the uk )

From my own experience, this was difficult to answer until after I got it... there's quite a few variables, but how often you use it and in what seasons seems to be the most significant contributor for me, which I didn't know until after the installation. So, anticipate it will cost more than the salespersons tell you, as I should have. I'm in the US, northeast. We use our in-ground, 5-person, 2-pump tub year-round, mostly in winter (there's nothing like chillin' in a hot tub with frost in your hair, or, even better, a little snow!), so I run it in "standard" mode all day, maybe 3 to 5C below comfy temp to minimize heat up time. We turn the temp down in summer and use it mostly during the day to cool off (we also opted for the tub rather than a pool) -- besides, its usually too warm/muggy at night to use hot anyway -- so I run it in "economy" mode. Based on that, my electric usage runs about US$100 to 150 per month (sorry, not sure what the corresponding kW-h value is).

Other costs you have to consider... the filter will need periodic replacement, and those little nozzles and trim items are not cheap to replace, they will wear out after a few years if it's running a lot. The pump won't last forever either, so figure on eventual replacement of that as well (plus installation fee). One of my two pumps went after 5 years, and the other in 6 (leaky shaft bearings).

In the end, mine is a bit expensive to operate and maintain, but the cost is justified in my eyes 'cause I just love the tranquil outdoor soak, and it has excellent entertainment factor for when friends come over.

What is makes a spa an eco-spa?

Answer
Not sure, but this is what I found:
"Eco Spas are a unique blend of advanced technology components and a uni-body structure that combine to make your Hot Tub experience relaxing and easy on the back pocket. Eco Spas are great value and a wonderful way to share time with family and friends." -extracted from splashandrelax.co.uk
