I'm having a sleepover with 5-8 teenage girls. What kinds of food should I get and what should I do to entertain them? What are some good scary movies? Wii games? I have a hot tub, should I that be an option? What are some things to do to have a fun b-day party?

Answer
If you're ordering in and have a low budget I would just order several different pizzas: one meat, one vegetarian, one cheese.

If you're ordering in and have a higher budget I would order Thai food or something you really like that's not every day food.

If you're making your own food I would do a Mexican theme where you make tacos and nachos and guacamole. You can have virgin margaritas with it.

If you want to have snacks on hand for throughout the night I'd get chips, veggies and dips for them. Maybe make some chocolate covered strawberries and bananas. Also have a few different sodas and juices on hand.

Scary movies that you might like are Vacancy, Pet Cemetery and Chainsaw Massacre.

You can tell everyone to bring a bathing suit and if you all decide to use the hot tub then they'll be prepared.

Arranging to all go see a movie or go out to dinner can be nice too.

**Setting up a manicure/pedicure thing would be cool. Get several new bottles of polish, top coat, cotton balls, toe separators, nail file and polish remover in case they already have old polish on. Buy some cheap flip flops for everyone. You can find some at the dollar store or even just Walmart.

Have fun and happy birthday!

What do I need for pool maintenance?

I'm moving into a home that comes with one of those pools connected to a hot tub and I haven't any idea what I need to buy chemical wise.

How do you maintain a pool?
Should I buy a cover for seasons it isn't in use?
Note: The whole point is so that I don't have to hire a pool cleaner for something I can do myself.

Answer
Definitely the easiest thing is hiring a cleaner and a lot of times it ends up being cheaper, especially the way chlorine prices have been climbing. But if you're intent on doing yourself you will need:
-Chlorine (tablets are the easiest way to do it)
-Floater for the chlorine
-Test strips to measure chemical levels
-Stabilizer (for stabilizing chlorine)
-Muriatic acid and soda ash to adjust pH

Those are the very basics, but you might need other things like a shock of some kind (there are several different kinds depending on types of algae being treated), algaecides, phosphate removers, etc.

I always found that a good self cleaner (Hayward Pool Vac was my favorite) was a lot more useful than a cover. What normally happens with a cover is that it sits on the pool for an extended period of time and gets covered in leaves and dirt and things and as soon as you want to use the pool you remove the cover and dump all of that in. Then you have to spend a good deal of time fishing it all out and waiting for it to be filtered. Also, this would almost require an immediate filter cleaning on a cartridge filter, depending on the amount of dirt and dust on the cover.
