I don't typically wear tampons, but I have a friend who has a hot tub and invited me in. I didn't go in because I'm on my period, but I was wondering if I wore a tampon if it'd be okay? I typically just avoid hot tubs and pools and such when I'm on my period. Can you tell me all you know? Would there be any, well, leakage or anything to be warned about?

Answer
I totally understand how you feel, if you've tried tampons before and found them difficult or uncomfortable its easy to just avoid water. But for as long as you have your period, dealing with it is going to be 1/4 of your time so its a good idea to get used to it.

You can absolutely wear a tampon in a hot tub or swimming pool and as long as you are wearing the right absorbency(normally regular, but super if you have a heavy flow) you should have no leaks and be fine. If you're not used to tampons try a small one, perhaps a teen brand, something with a plastic applicator (I really like the new U by Kotex line). Make sure you read the instructions with the tampons and follow the directions and you should be just fine.

Have fun!

What is the fascination with HOT TUBS?

Why are people so fascinated with jacuzzis (hot tubs) as they are cesspools of germs and just downright DISGUSTING!!! Please, tell me why are they so popular?

Answer
I can't believe I am going to answer this question but:

As for your comment that hot tubs are cesspools. I have to really disagree. In fact I bet your kitchen/bathroom and the keyboard you are typing on have more germs than most hot tubs. The reason I would make this kind of statement is if you have a hot tub you are using a sanitizer on a regular basis or algea will take over and you will not want to get into a green tub that looks like any stream, river, lake or ocean on earth. (you should see what's in those!) Most modern tubs are built with shells that have microban incorporated into them and CD ozonators as standard equipment and even filters with minerals to kill bacteria, so even if you don't use a sanitizer correctly the level of "germs" are at a low level. The problems for most are public swimming pools and hot tubs that are just not correctly mantained. That is where we hear of the highest level of illnesses.

When we had our store and sold hot tubs a great percentage actually purchased the tub for health reasons. A joint, muscle or skeleton issue where warm water therapy helps relieve their pain. Of course probably 60% bought them for the fun factor.

Someone not in the business or just young and unknowledgable might consider them to be some sort of "prestige" thing really must have some sort of chip on their shoulder to think it all comes down to a "class" or income level.
