I'm a Canadian, wanting to travel to Disney in Florida. I am hoping to save money where I can (since I have a big family). When would be the best time to go to Disney so I can cut our costs as much as I can (e.g. on airplane tickets, hotel tickets, etc)?
Answer
You can save money at Disney on lodging and food. Tickets aren't discounted but a couple of bucks.
Lodging? Well, if you stay on property, you will want to stay on top of the many discount codes that come out. Disney Visa, AAA, CAA, and others. Never pay rack rate-- the rate on the Disney website. Never.
The value resorts are the cheapest, and all resorts are cheaper during value seasons. 4 in a room is pretty much maximum in a value, and you'll need to get into a suite at any accommodation level for more than 5.
Off property, you can stay in a home at say, Windsor Hills, with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, your own pool, your own hot tub, your own game room, your own kitchen, for about $185 night. But-- you'll have to rent a car and pay for parking.
Food? Well, on property, you''ll be eating in food courts or restaurants. You can skimp in many ways here, or you can buy the disney Dining plan for about $45 per person 10 and over.
Off property- you have a kitchen, so you can cook.
The cheapest might be to get rooms at a value resort (Pop doesn't share buses) during the free dining promotion in August and sept.
The cheapest and more comfortable might be to get a house off property at any time of year, and plan your meals well.
Good luck!

Try Skamania Lodge. It is a spectacular site in the Columbia River Gorge, there is a spa, golf, excellent food, you can get up to the mountains to ski, or if you are just looking to chill out, the lodge has an enormous fireplace and beautiful views of the gorge (and it is almost always nearly empty) and a pool and outdoor hot tub over looking the gorge. I have been here a few times, and it is very comfortable, beautiful, and peaceful.

I think you could spend as little as 120 which, admit it, isn´t bad.
