Hot tub heater problem, need help.?

Tritonx13

Hi, I have a Blue Ridge Spa hot tub and the heater won't work. I changed the filter and it still won't work. Someone please help me. Thank you
It is electric

Answer
The very first thing to do is check for any fuses in the controls. Usually there are several including one about the size of your little finger and about two finger-joints long, and opaque (can't see through it). This will be the heater fuse. Check it. There may be from one to three other glass fuses in addition, check them as well. These tests done with the power OFF.

How old is the unit? We have found that the heating elements in the typical hot-tub more than a very few years old have about a five-year life, sometimes less. You should test the heater element to see if it is open or not.

Turn off power to the tub.
Open the controls and look for the heater terminals. The heater is *inside* the stainless steel pipe about 2" in diameter and sticks through it with two large terminals. Put a VOM across the terminals. You should get a very low reading - under 100 ohms anyway. No reading = bad heater. Very high reading = ???

If you get the correct (low) reading you will have to check the pressure-switch next. That is a 'dashpot' also connected to the tube. And, unless you know how to use a VOM when the system is under power, DO NOT try this test!! You will have to power-up the system and take a reading across the pressure-switch. If it is open and the pump is operating and water flowing correctly, it is bad. AGAIN - WARNING!! You are messing around electricity and water. Know what you are doing or don't do it.

If the pressure-switch is good, check for a bad relay - again - a tough test unless you are certain what you are doing.

Answer
You can get an owner's manual here that should help you identifying the model
www.rhtubs.com/blue-ridge-manual.htm

or this place sells part for Blue Ridge Spas and can probably help you identify the parts
