I added 3 lbs of baking soda to my hot tub to change the chemical problems. I added too much and it stuck to the fiberglass as a hard grit, like sandpaper. I tried a scrape it with a plastic scraper. Then I drained the hot tub and now need to get the grit off. How?

Answer
if the soda crystals are still on the surface of the plastic (not embedded into it completely) you can try dissolving them with hot water and that plastic scraper - or even a steam cleaner, but take care if the tub is made of plastic (and not actually f/glass), you could just melt yourself into even more trouble!
If the "grit" is encapsulated now, then your only option (apart from a new tub) is to use a sander to get back to a smooth surface, and then apply a suitable layer of fibreglass paint (I used Perfection 709 on a glass boat hull - great stuff)

What is that whitish cottony stuff that grows on the wood and how do I get rid of it?

I have an old hot tub made of Cypress wood. I have trouble with a growth of whitish cottony like material that grows on the inside of the tub. I always have excess chlorine levels using 99% tri.s.....
I use no chemicals except an occasional use of a clearifyer if cloudyness occurs. I run the tub from April to November.
When I shut the tub and drain it I clean it using a high pressure washer and get about a 2 gallon pail of this stuff off the walls
HELP!!!!
Answers to may18sun@aol.com would be appreciated

Answer
I am thinking is mold or fungis growth as the wood rots.
