I know activity should be avoided, but I can't because of school. What do you think?
Answer
Activity just needs to be limited for the first month as excessive movement can cause migration and rejection. Usually movement is also accompanied with sweat, so after exercise, you should wash your piercing. The only thing you should avoid for a month or two is swimming pools and hot tubs/saunas-both are filled with bacteria and germs and not good for new piercings.
DO NOT cover the piercing with a band-aid. Band-aids restrict the piercing and can cause numerous problems over time. If you need to cover it for any reason, use a 2"x2" piece of gauze and tape it over the area. Also, DO NOT change the jewelry until the piercing is healed. This can be anywhere from 4 months to a year. Its important to let the piercing heal because it heals from the outside in and often it looks healed, but the inside (aka the fistula) is still forming and if torn from changing the jewelry can cause infections, rejection and longer healing time.
Best thing you can do is just not play with it during the day and make sure your pants and shirt don't rub on the piercing a lot. Clean the piercing twice daily with mild soap (I prefer Dial or Satin) and rinse the area will. Use a sea salt soak every other day to help with soothing the area and make healing easier.

Try to avoid using the following products:
Rubbing alcohol, Bactine, Neosporin, Peroxide.
While they work for some, for a majority of people they kill both good and harmful bacteria, make the skin overly dry and irritate the piercing which in turn will slow healing.
If at any point you have concerns about something, ask your piercer. Good luck.

how long will it take to heat up to about 100 degrees?
Answer
I'll do the calculation for you, but you are going to have to tell me the wattage of the heating element. Or, you can do it yourself:
