it looks like some kind of redwood, like a giant wine cask (remember lucy & ethel crushing the grapes on I LOVE LUCY?) it's hand made possibly from a kit,I noticed a silicone"caulk" type thing between the planks,it's been sitting for a few seasons gathering leaves and all kinds of bacteria& whatever else, that i need to clean up without affecting the wood. PLEASE HELP! I WANT TO USE MY HOT TUB!!!!
THANKS!!
Answer
Use a pressure washer. Most washers have a feature that allows you to inject chemicals into the output stream. There are a variety of treatments for wood products that will remove stains and disinfect at the same time. Try a major retailer such as Home Depot. If it is just a stain, the high pressure water may do the job without adding any chemical. Just be careful that you don't damage the wood by getting the nozzle too close.

I am installing a GFCI box outdoors for a hot tub I am installing. I was going to use 6/3 w/grnd UF-B wire and just bury it under the slab I am planning to lay.
According to code and/or saftey do I have to have any of this wire in a conduit or can I just run it right out of the GFCI box and out the other side under the slab and into the tub?
Answer
According to the NEC, the cable MUST be in a conduit from the point it leaves the box to at least 18" below grade. Under your slab, it should remain a minimum of 18" below grade (Table 300.5). I would run 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC conduit the whole distance and then pull in #6 THHN. With a conduit, if there is a problem in the future, it is much easier to make changes. If you bury a cable beneath the slab, the only way to change somthing is to dig up your slab. Everything you would need is available at Home Depot or Lowes.
