I am looking to purchase a house with an outdoor unprotected hot tub in an area with severe winters. Do I change the water? Is it expensive to keep it heated?
What are pitfalls?

This house also has only one bathroom which contains a whirlpool bath and I like bath oil. Do I just make sure the jets are off when using bath oil? Or are my bath oil and bubble baths over?

Thanks.

Answer
just turn the temp down but winter is the best time to use it don't drain it you will crack the pvc pipe enjoy the hot tub if you use it it about a dollar aday to use it your cell phone cost more to use

What is the best temperature to maintain an outdoor hot tub?

I want to try to keep it cooler when im not using it, but at the same time i don't want to wait 24 hrs for it to heat up. I live in michigan and its going to be average about 55 degrees for this next week. Im aiming to cut energy costs. My hot tub has a econ mode button. I don't know exactly how it differs from the standard settting.

Answer
We keep ours at 80 when we know we won't be using it. However, we live in a warmer climate and even though it is set to 80, the water never gets that cool.
When we do want to use it, we put it on the 'standard' setting and it gets up to 104 in about 4 hours.

Perhaps try setting it on 'econ' and then about 90 degrees.
