We want to buy a small two person hot tub and put it on our kitchen porch (which is really large). What kind of professional should we have in to tell us whether our porch can support that kind of weight? Can someone at the hot tub place tell us, or is there some kind of contractor who can answer this question?

Answer
The hot tub place can tell you ,if you give them some measurements. Have to look under the porch to see what size of floor joists you have - 2x8 or 2x10, 16 inches apart or more. Give them the numbers of all measurements you can make. This information would be needed by a contractor too.

Can I make a hot tub from an old whirlpool bath and an instant hot water heater?

I bought a small instant hot water heater years ago to use in our RV but our electrician said it wouldn't work (something about the watts and such), so it's been sitting in the garage for years still in the box. Now it's just my teenage daughter and I at home and we both adore long hot baths. I'm getting ready to remodel the bathroom and figured it would waste less water to get a hot tub so we can soak every night in the same water. We can't fit a regular hot tub in the bathroom and also build a separate shower, so I was wondering if I get one of those numerous used whirlpool spas from the ReStore store and hook it to my old instant water heater, could I make a small SAFE hot tub? I figured when we're not using it I could cover it with a bench type seat. Just an idea but I'm not sure it's worth pursuing. Spark any ideas anyone wants to share?

Answer
Watts mean heat. Just like your hairdryer. The higher the wattage the more heat. An RV does not use a lot so get some more clarification. I am not favoring the idea personally of soaking in old water as much as you relish the idea, but each to their own. However I cannot see a problem with the idea. You only can try, right?
