Help with a leak in my Hot Tub spa... newbie here...?

SLink

hi, i have developed a leak in my hot tub and I'm not sure I know where it is coming from. However, there is one jet that appears to be broken because the center of it is very loose. So, I suspect that this is the problem...

i am reading about a product called "Seal-A-Leak". Has anyone had experience or used this product? I may think about trying it.

help please, I' at a loss right now... thanks

Answer
It would be better to just call a hot tub repairman from the company that you bought it from. If you didn't buy it, then call a hot tub distributor, he should know who to call for the repair. That would be better than to start putting all kinds of junk in the tub, that the repairman will have to dig out to fix.

What is the difference between spas, hot tubs, and jacuzzis?

Troy

Im planning an outing with my gf and I got confused.

Answer
Pretty good response. I think the definitions fluctuate depending on the usage. Hot tubs originally meant wooden heated vessels for soaking. When plastics came into the industry, we used the term 'spa'' to differentiate the tubs that were wood and the ones that were made from fiberglass, acrylic and other plastics.
Roy Jacuzzi is the name of the person that produced the first jet pump that was classified as a whirlpool pump. Mostly known for jetted bathtubs, the company later expanded into spas.

A Spa can also be a business offering massage, facials, retreats and vacations.

Today the terms are interchangeable. Hot Tub has come to mean any vessel that holds hot water and generally has jets for hydrotherapy. They are also frequently called jacuzzis although this really is the most incorrect of the three terms.

Looking for a hotel near Milwaukee, WI where we can get 2 beds and a 4-person hot tub?

Geek Grrrl

We are looking for a hotel near Milwaukee, WI where we can get 2 king size beds and a 4-person hot tub in the room. It would be great if it was a suite - where there are two separate bedrooms with a door between, but it's the same room or suite, that shares a 4 person hot tub. The closest thing I found was that LaQuinta has a suite that sleeps three and has a 2-person hot tub, but unfortunately that doesn't sound like it will be what we need. Any ideas?

Can someone local to milwaukee tell me if the follow hotel is icky?
We're going to summerfest. My obession to have a hot tub in the room may over rode good judgement. I called around, very few places that are under 200, that weekend, with a hot tub/jazucci in the room. I booked at Rodeway - but is it kinda icky, like a hotel 6 right off the hightway? You know what I mean. lol Here is the address:

Rodeway
4400 S. 27th Street , Milwaukee, WI, US, 53221

If it's not like, holiday inn or better standards, please rocemmned a place in the area ? The good ones - astor, metro, iron horse and even comfort in - are too much or totally booked or have no jacuzzi. HELP!

Pfister has a spot, but is really "that" nice? Give up the jacuzzi nice?

Thanks :)

Answer
check the ones on S 13th St... there are several.. and near park and ride spots that you could bus right into the summerfest grounds and not have to worry about driving and parking at summerfest.... they just built a Staybridge Suites on 27th and Ryan which would also give you easy access to a park and ride.. thats the way to go so you dont have to deal with driving and parking..

Hot tubs??

Lea

Hello!
Where is a good place to get a hot tub in NY for a really good deal.
money is running low.
thanks!

Answer
shop around for a used one in good condition. New ones are quite expensive. We bought our house with one so we didn't have to shop. Friends have bought new ones and they were pricey.

Also, on the new ones, they are regulated at 100 deg for safety reasons...and that seems to be all brands. For most people that ain't hot enough. Shop around before you buy for sure.

Hope this helps. :)

I am looking to Purchase a Jacuzzi hot tub and was wondering what others experience has been with that brand?

wallrapp

http://www.jacuzzihottubs.com/j-400/j-465.html is the model I am looking at.

Are these spas as energy efficient as they claim. Approximately $15 dollars per month?

Answer
The brand is good, but take a hard look at the distributor, are they an actual Jaccuzzi authorized store? If you have problems after the sale, you need to be able to trust that they can handle it professionally.

Sage is dead on as far as other brands being less expensive... Compare warranties as well.

And the $15 a month figure sounds like it is based on having the unit covered and only heated and circulated, not actually used. Your energy consumption will probably be higher than that. I know mine is.

how should i clean an all wood outdoor hot tub without damaging the wood, but making it safe for people to use?

stepsforli

it looks like some kind of redwood, like a giant wine cask (remember lucy & ethel crushing the grapes on I LOVE LUCY?) it's hand made possibly from a kit,I noticed a silicone"caulk" type thing between the planks,it's been sitting for a few seasons gathering leaves and all kinds of bacteria& whatever else, that i need to clean up without affecting the wood. PLEASE HELP! I WANT TO USE MY HOT TUB!!!!
THANKS!!

Answer
Use a pressure washer. Most washers have a feature that allows you to inject chemicals into the output stream. There are a variety of treatments for wood products that will remove stains and disinfect at the same time. Try a major retailer such as Home Depot. If it is just a stain, the high pressure water may do the job without adding any chemical. Just be careful that you don't damage the wood by getting the nozzle too close.

Outdoor wiring in Michigan(Lansing)?

tomASS

I am installing a GFCI box outdoors for a hot tub I am installing. I was going to use 6/3 w/grnd UF-B wire and just bury it under the slab I am planning to lay.

According to code and/or saftey do I have to have any of this wire in a conduit or can I just run it right out of the GFCI box and out the other side under the slab and into the tub?

Answer
According to the NEC, the cable MUST be in a conduit from the point it leaves the box to at least 18" below grade. Under your slab, it should remain a minimum of 18" below grade (Table 300.5). I would run 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC conduit the whole distance and then pull in #6 THHN. With a conduit, if there is a problem in the future, it is much easier to make changes. If you bury a cable beneath the slab, the only way to change somthing is to dig up your slab. Everything you would need is available at Home Depot or Lowes.

What are the parts needed to install a hot tub?

Jenn

I just bought a used hot tub and I am not positive it came with all the parts but I have no idea what a hot tub requires. I am going to call a electrician to install the hot tub but I would like to have some idea of what I am doing before I call an electrician. I know you need some type of heater, what type are you suppose to get? Is the heater suppose to be attached to your house? Are there extra parts you need for the heater?...any information would be great! I am a clueless hot tub owner.

Answer
look for mfg. name, model type write down all info you can find. Mfg.sometimes will email an owners manual with tips to take care of it, make sure you have room in the box to add a 240 volt heater w/50 amp.breaker ck electric codes, most need a manual shutoff within 15 ft of the tub. the equipment pack with most of the plumbing parts and topside controls is the best way to go,the starting price is $1000. if all you need is a heater and $1500. for the equip. pack. 120 volt is a joke for a tub. get 2 sets of filters clean often. good luck you'll need it.

Help! with hair growth!!?

Nina

Hi there, I'm 14, and going to be staring biotin 5000, i wan't too know if you can use heat on your hair while taking the pill.. ? straightner? my hair is about just under my boobs :/ thx

Answer
HAIR: GROW LONG, HEALTHY HAIR
- get a hot oil treatment once a month. these oils, including the natural ones your hair produces, contain keratin. this helps your hair grow. purchase any hair oil at a drug store, and run the bottle under really hot water from your sink or tub. then apply it to your hair(with special attention to your scalp) then rinse it out with warm water.
- deep condition once a week (some good brands are Lustick, Garnier, and Pantene)
- leave in conditioners. these are the kind you do not rinse out. apply it to the scalp, and pay extra attention to your ends ! this should also be done when deep conditioning the hair; extra should always be applied to your ends to repair damage
- keep your hair in a bun at night. it actually prevents breakage, because your ends are protected.
- don't brush your hair when it's wet, it increases damage

Where can I get the best deals on lift tickets?

miss vamp

How do I get save money on lift tickets in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont.. any mountain in New England would be great.

Answer
$3.50 at Mad River Glen, VT every year on the last tuesday of January.

$5.50 at Sugarbush, VT on Christmas Day (I think that's still going on.)

Become a volunteer with Vermont Adaptive Ski& Sports at Pico or Sugarbush and get 1 day comp for Killington, Sugarbush, or Pico for everyday you work with the adaptive center.

Okemo has a bunch of skier appreciation days and other special for VT/NH residents. Also the 1st hour at Okemo on weekdays is free! It may not be worth the drive for just 1 hour of free skiing...but it is free.

Next year go to see a showing of the annual Warren Miller movie. They usually have comp tix as part of the movie package, but not all theaters have the same deals, so check Warren's website ahead of time. This year's deal for a lot of places in NY State were a) a Comp to Stratton, b) a 2-for-1 to Smugglers Notch, c) A comp to Windham, d) 2-for-1 to Swain, and e) 2-for-1 to Holiday Valley along with a subscription to Skiing magazine and other swag.

Organize a group trip...the leader (depending on how many are in the group, usually 15, sometimes 10) gets a free lift ticket.

Late and early season tix are always cheaper, likewise buy 1/2 day tix and then chillax for the afternoon. (Ski 4 hard hours straight at a big hill and you'll be looking for the hot tub by lunchtime.)

Join the National Ski Patrol. You'll get deals...you might get handed a radio when visiting a mountain and be asked to work too...but heck...you're skiing for free!

What are the requirements for an outdoor hot tub in Boston?

outdoor hot tub maintenance
on Anyone Have An Outdoor Hot Tub?? - Must Have Mom
outdoor hot tub maintenance image

merrio

I can't find anything specific on the City site ...

Answer
http://www.spasnstuff.com/MA-Massachusetts-hot-tubs-spas-infrared-saunas.html

These are the universal rules. The site listed above gives you a local contact to advise you further.

No matter where you decide to place your hot tub you need to make sure that the location has a solid foundation. What this means to you is that the foundation must be a uniformly firm, continuous, and it must provide a level setting. The recommended foundation is a concrete pad with a minimum thickness of 4 inches with steel reinforced cross bars throughout.

When installing your spa on a wood deck or balcony, the same load requirements must be met. Total load may be as much as 90 pounds per square foot. Remember that your hot tub weights about 700 pounds on its own, then when you add water and people, it could have a total weight of up to 4,000 pounds.

Regardless of the location that you decide upon, you need to be sure that the hot tub is not within 10 feet of overhead power lines and that you leave access to the internal equipment.

In order to complete maintenance or to make a needed repair, you will need adequate space to be able to reach the internal components. If your hot tub has external equipment you need to know that most city codes require that the equipment be at least 5' from the tub, unless they are separated by a permanent solid barrier.

Do I need a service disconnect if my main breaker panel is within line of sight of the spa?

K P

If possible, please provide references.

Answer
QUESTION: Is a spa or hot tub installed at a single-family residence, outdoors on a deck,
required to have the disconnecting means specified in NEC 680.12? Is a general-purpose
receptacle outlet required between 6 and 20 feet from the spa or hot tub per 680.22(A)(3)?
Does the equipotential bonding grid required in 680.26(B)(2) have to be installed around the
perimeter of the spa or hot tub?
ANSWER PART 1: Yes, a maintenance disconnecting means is required. NEC 680.42 for
outdoor spa and hot installations refers back to Part I and Part II for the rules that would
otherwise apply to swimming pools. (NEC 680.42(A) and (B) do provide some exceptions from
the main rules in Parts I and II; these exceptions are related to flexible connections and
bonding). The disconnecting means mentioned in the question is in 680.12 in Part I and would
be applicable to outdoor spas and hot tubs. In summary, the outdoor spa or hot tub in question
would be required to be provided with a maintenance disconnecting means in accordance with
690.12.
ANSWER PART 2: Yes, a GFCI-protected receptacle outlet would be required to be installed
no closer than 6 feet and no further than 20 feet from the outdoor spa or hot tub.
ANSWER PART 3: Yes, an equipotential bonding grid would be required for an outdoor spa or
hot tub. Compliance with the prescriptive rules in the NEC is achievable through proper design,
planning, and construction for a new installation. However, if a new packaged spa or hot tub is
IAEI April 15, 2009
located onto an existing deck or an existing grade-level concrete patio, it can be a challenge to
meet the prescriptive requirements in the NEC. In summary, when new spas or hot tubs are
placed into existing locations, the installer and the AHJ will need to assess each situation and
its unique characteristics on a case-by-case basis in order to meet the intent of the NEC and to
ensure a safe installation.

I am looking for a hotel in Myrtle Beach, and would like one that is reasonably priced also. Any suggestions?

Answer
Dunes Village Resort
5200 North Ocean Blvd
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
877-828-2237
http://www.dunesvillage.com/

I just went there a few weeks ago for the first time. My daughter and I stayed in an ocean front room on the fifth floor. We had the typical hotel bathroom, a kitchen with full size fridge, stove and microwave, a king size bed, two TVs (one by the bed, the other by the couch), and a balcony overlooking the ocean. It was only $75 a night.

My friends' room was literally an apartment. It had a bedroom with two queen size beds, a full kitchen with dishwasher, stove and all that stuff, a washer and dryer, they were on the twelve floor with a balcony and ocean view, and there was a murphy bed in the dining area, as well as the fold out couch like in every other room. Oh, and a big jetted tub. They paid somewhere around $200 a night, although I really think it was a little less...maybe $160-170.

The resort has two buildings, each with a water park on the ground floor. There are outdoor pools and hot tubs (as well as indoor) for both buildings. Showers at the end of the dock to wash off the sand, outdoor bar, beach volleyball, restaurant downstairs, and other amenities are available. It was close to shopping and restaurants, but we didn't go to them since the weather was crappy. I would absolutely stay there again.

What should I expect getting a Guinea pig?

Jaylen

Hi I'm getting a pig in less than a week and I'm totally excited. Its almost all I think about, but I do know it will take work and responsiblility.

Please tell me the down sides from experience. For example keep me up at night with squeaking, biting, etc.

Don't leave out anything please.

Answer
Guinea pigs are a great pet to have. They are friendly, rarely bite and are not much trouble at all. Yes, they do squeak, but they usually only squeak when you have food. I have 4 female guinea pigs, so they generally squeak at each other, but the only time they squeak directly at me is when they hear me chopping up their vegetables and rattling their food tub (I do their dinner at the same time every day because it helps them get into routine).

So in terms of squeaking, it's not something that's really going to keep you up at night. They usually do it for a few seconds and then stop, but if you do have a squeaky guinea pig, it's most likely that you'll eventually learn to block it out during the night.

My guinea pigs have never bitten me - nor have any of my past guinea pigs. They are pretty friendly and like attention (my pigs spend hours sitting on my lap with me during the day getting cuddles).

The down side is that if you keep your guinea pig outside, then they are obviously more likely to get ill than if they're kept inside. I have kept all of my 4 guinea pigs in an indoor cage, but they always go out in the garden for a run during the day. This Summer, I decided to leave them outdoors for the warmer part of the Summer as it was so unbearably hot indoors and heat isn't good for guinea pigs. When it was time for them to come in after a few weeks of hot weather and sun, I noticed an ulcer on one of my guinea pig's eyes. On top of this, she'd somehow managed to develop an abscess on her back, so this resulted in an immediate trip to the vet and I had to pay £150 to remove the infected abscess AND for the vet to examine her eye and then prescribe me treatment for both.

To cut a long story short, if you're keeping your guinea pigs outside, you'll need to keep a close eye on them. If you're keeping them inside, then it's still important that they have an outdoor run as guinea pigs need the vitamin C from the sun as they cannot make their own.

Secondly, if you are thinking of getting a female guinea pig, then you need to get 2 or more. Female guinea pigs should never live on their own as they are sociable and enjoy the company of another guinea pig. Males, on the other hand, require to live alone. The high testosterone levels in their body mean that they will often fight with another male or feel threatened by his presence, eventually resulting in injury or death. So females live in pairs, males live alone.

The GOOD thing about guinea pigs is that they are easily house-trained. During the time where my guinea pig was having treatment, I had to keep her separate from the others to avoid it spreading. As we didn't have another cage, we had a little house on the living room floor and she had the whole run of the living room. She peed on it at first, but then after a few days she stopped doing it. Now we have her out and she never pees/poos on us or the floor - only in the potty area in her cage.

Another thing - male guinea pigs are slightly vicious in comparison to females, however they quickly become used to their owner. Both genders are a pleasure to own; it really depends if you want one guinea pig or whether you can cope with 2 females.

There really aren't many negative points about owning a guinea pig, which is why they are such a popular pet.

Hope this helps!

Does this sound like a nice honeymoon?

gatlinburg cabins outdoor hot tub image

Crystal

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon. We both love Gatlinburg, TN. I have found a nice cabin that is classified as a "honeymoon cabin".

Here is what the website says about it:
"This Gatlinburg cabin rental has two levels. Each level has a queen bedroom. There are also two bathrooms, one on each level. A beautiful view of the Great Smoky Mountains and Mount LeConte are just a two of the many reasons that help make this cabin rental great.

The master suite of this Gatlinburg cabin rental is downstairs and has numerous amenities to offer you and that special person. It features a full luxury bathroom including a large tiled shower. A separate laundry room offers a washer and dryer so that you can pack light; there is an iron and board as well so that you can get your clothes wrinkle free before visiting the local attractions. Letâs not forget about the wood burning fireplace and the relaxing two person Jacuzzi tub for you and your loved one to enjoy while spending a romantic evening alone.

Upstairs the great room offers a comfortable sectional sofa and a heartwarming wood-burning fireplace; the glow of the fire can be used to warm up by on those cold Gatlinburg Tennessee nights. Some of the entertaining objects of the great room are a pool table for the family to enjoy, as well as a flat panel TV to enjoy watching movies.

The dining area in this Gatlinburg cabin rental is connected to the great room. There is also a fully equipped kitchen. From the luxury kitchen you can look out the through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows at the beauty of the Smoky Mountains.

Located in the loft is the home theater room. It features a forty-seven inch wide screen high definition TV with cable. There is also a DVD player so that you and your family can enjoy a movie together. Cuddle up on the loveseat and stay in one night to watch movies. Also, there is half bath off of the home theater room.

You can walk out your glass sliding doors onto the cabinâs private sixty-foot deck to see a truly captivating view of the Great Smoky Mountains. You will have a great view of the sunrise and sunset. The private deck features a charcoal grill and outdoor seating while the lower deck features a four person hot tub."

There is also a "dance pole" in the master bedroom. For the dates we are going, the price is $195 per night.

Does all this sound nice?
@robson: http://www.cabinsforyou.com
@PatV: I laughed at the "filling the extra room".

Anyone been to tennessee/smokey mountains?

SnOwBuNnY

i want to find a hotel/lodge between $50-$100 per night (maybe a little more if the view is beautiful). i would like some sort of indoor pool/jacizzi, and a balcony to wake up in the morning to a smokey mountain view. Anyone been to a place like this? i could use some travel advice. Thank you.

Answer
I have been there many times and love it! We usually stay in a cabin/chalet, but I did a quick search of 'smoky mountain hotels' and found several in that price range that had an indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub and I know some have jacuzzis in the room. I know some of the hotels that are on the main Parkway are going to probably have more of a wooded or creekside view, you will need to stay up at a higher elevation to get a better view. Keeping in mind that some of the roads can be difficult during winter weather, but I think this probably applies more to the cabins that are more secluded.

You can search Gatlinburg as well as Pigeon Forge and Sevierville which are two towns beside Gatlinburg which also have many, many attractions and lodging. There is a trolley system that runs in and between these cities.

Idk when you are wanting to travel but keep in mind that fall is peak season there due to the changing leaves. You should be able to get a very good rate in the next few months esp if you are not shooting for a holiday.

May I also suggest that you plan to visit the Smoky Mountain National Park. I have heard that some people vacation in the area and don't even go to the park but it is beautiful even if you just drive through. Restaurants I would recommend include the Old Mill and the Apple Barn/Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant (everything apples--wine, candies, gifts, etc).

As for other things to do, there really is something for everyone--nature, shopping, the aquarium, amusement parks, skiing, it's just an awesome place to visit. Hope I helped, have fun!

They used to be popular in the 70's and 80's, but most were shut down due to health violations. Not sure I'd want to go in one in the SF area.

What you need, is Nanny McFee... or Puddingstone Hot Tubs Resort. I believe that will fit the bill nicely:

Any suggestions for planning a cruise for my parents?

Braden

I want to plan a cruise for my parents who are both around 40. I want them to go somewhere warm, probably the Caribbean, but other than that I have no idea what to do. I know I will need airfare, but what things are actually included in the cruise price? I don't want to send them on a vacation where they have to spend a lot. Basically I have no idea how to plan this. Should I go to a travel agency? I don't want to mess this up and send them somewhere terrible. Any ideas?

Answer
First, you should go to a travel agent/agency, like AAA, American Express, or just look in your local phone book for travel agents, ask friends if they know one they have used, or even go to a web site like Royal Caribbean cruise line and they will refer you to an agent. Travel agents generally do not charge a fee for their services because they are paid in commission by the cruise lines and hotels when they complete bookings.

It's hard to give you advice on where to send them since you didn't provide information on where they live; which would affect travel time and costs. However, an Alaska cruise is always a good option as they leave from the west coast US and Canada. The Alaska cruise season is mid-May through mid-Sept each year. A 7 day Caribbean cruise is always great and cruises leave from gulf ports like Galveston, TX, New Orleans, La., and Tampa, Fl, as well as Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Port Canaveral, Fl. Cruises also leave from other ports along the east cost, Charleston, SC; Norfolk, Va, Baltimore, Md, Bayonne, NJ and NYC and Boston.

Here's the basics of what you need to know:

All cruise cabins are sold based on double occupancy and the prices listed will be per person and based on at least two people going on the cruise. The price you pay will depend mostly on the type cabin/accommodations that you choose. There are 4 basic types of cabins on ships;
- inside (no window),................................⦠least expensive
- outside (a window or porthole),
- balcony/veranda, and
- suites and penthouses.......................... most expensive.

You can reserve a cruise by (1) booking on line; (2) by calling the cruise line, or (3) through a travel agent. The price will be about the same regardless of which you use. You will pay at booking the minimum deposit which will be between $250 and $350 per person for a 7 day cruise, depending upon the cruise line. The balance will be due approximately 60 days before the cruise departure date. If you book within about 60 days of the cruise you will have to pay the full amount.

- Princess, Celebrity and Holland America have great ships are more classy and reserved. They are just a little more upscale and luxurious than the other cruise lines. Passengers tend to be middle aged and up and have cruised multiple times. Holland America has mostly senior citizens cruising on its ships. Norwegian cruise line is good, it cater to families and have mostly passengers in the range of age 35-40 and up. Its the line that you want to go on if you want to be informal for pretty much your whole cruise. Carnival is the budget cruise line that generally has the lowest prices. They cater to young people, first time cruiser and families. Royal Caribbean is also a cruise line that caters to young cruiser and families. It has the advantage of having the most on-board activities. Things like ice skating, roller blading, mini-golf course, a full sized basketball/tennis court, the rock climbing wall, and on the new Freedom and Oasis Class ships the surfing simulator, the Flowrider.

For the most part all cruises are all inclusive. Regardless of which cruise line you select the things that are included are pretty much the same. The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals (including breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free room service), free admissions to all shows and entertainment, and free use of all facilities on ship like the pools, hots tubs, gym, disco, etc,., except spa services. The things that you will have to pay for are gratuities (tips) alcoholic drinks and soft drinks, photos that you want, any tours from the ship you want to take, spa services like massages, and internet service. Gratuities will be about $11.50 per day per person and cover the cabin steward, waiter and assistant and the Matre'd. Other tips are added to drink orders at a rate of 15%

The prices you see advertised will NOT include airfare, travel insurance, taxes and fees, and gratuities. My suggestion for them would be Alaska if they don't mind cooler weather and can go during the Alaska cruise season, or the Caribbean as it has unlimited options.

Cal Spas Pricing in Indianapolis?

Jim T

We are set on purchasing a Cal Spas A857B hot tub. The Watson's dealer in Indianapolis lowered his price from $7,999 to $7,000. I'd like to know if this is a good deal, as it has been very tough to compare prices with hot tubs.

10 points best answer!

Answer
Unfortunately, there is really no way to tell how good a deal you have.

A lot of the cost of a hot tub or spa comes from the installation, so you want to make sure that you buy from an authorized dealer. So, I did a search for you, looking for authorized Cal Spa dealers, and, guess what? Watson's is the only one anywhere near Indianapolis. I was going to suggest that you get prices from other dealers, but you obviously can't do that.

In your situation, the only way you can judge the price is to look at other brands of spas. I'd walk in blind, tell them that you are looking at hot tubs (at $7000, you are looking for high-end models), and ask what they can offer. Even if you are set on the Cal Spa, it helps to see what else is being sold. If another brand with more-or-less comparable features and quality is a lot less, then Watson's probably has some negotiating room.

I did something similar recently when we bought a new garage door. The door we liked best was $1800. Home Depot was half that, but their door was not nearly as good. Then we got a bid from another place for an equivalent door at $1500. We went back to the place we liked, and they lowered their price to compete.

That's what you should try. Of course, if the other dealers are all in the same price range, then you are getting a fair price, and you can go ahead and order the Cal Spa with confidence.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Cheap romantic vacations on the east coast?

cheap lodges hot tubs
on and kitchen that leads out to the screened in porch with the hot tub ...
cheap lodges hot tubs image

Rachel

My husband and I would like to plan a trip for the middle of August this year for our anniversary. We would like to spend less than $800 on lodging (would like to stay a minimum of 5 nights). There is a little wiggle room there, but we would love to keep it under $800! We live in Richmond, VA and intend to drive to our destination so PA, Southern New England, North & South Carolina, etc is what we are looking into. Our minimum requirement for the resort/home/hotel is a queen sized bed (would prefer a king though) and obviously cleanliness. We would prefer a large shower and a large jetted tub in the room also (it is our anniversary after all ;).

Does anyone have any suggestions for romantic places to stay that might be a little cheaper (read: less popular for tourists). We don't need a ton to do but some nice scenery, historic sites, shopping, etc would be nice.

We're willing to spend 2-3 nights in a nicer more romantic place and stay someplace cheaper/less nice for a few nights as well (found a nice inn in Cumberland, MD with excellent reviews for only $80/night).

Let me know where you've stayed that you found romantic!
Private hot tubs/jetted tubs are a HUGE plus for us!!

Answer
Have you ever seen the hotel in the Poconos with the champagne glass hot tubs in the room?! I don't know the name of it or how much it costs but I'm sure if you googled it, it wuld be easy to find.

That's really the only place I know of with the hot tubs...but there is so much fun stuff to do in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Does anyone know of any lodge/log cabins within the midlands that are cheap?

Louise

Me and my three friends would love to go to a log cabin maybe with a hot tub any suggestions?

Answer
Have you thought about Nottinghamshire and Sherwood Forest, this can be a nice place to getaway and there are log cabins there and some have hot tubs. There are log cabins in other locations like Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire as well.

Is it just a hot tub and sauna? Is it worth the $25-$30 to do this and not get any services?

Answer
Generally this is what you get with your facility fee:

use of a locker, robe, sandals, and unlimited towels
access to a lounge area with magazines and a television
complimentary bottled water, juices, fresh fruit
use of all exercise equipment in the fitness center
hot tub, cold plunge pool, steam room, dry sauna
private showers
vanity area with beauty/grooming products (razors, shaving cream, deodorant, combs, brushes, mouthwash, hair dryers, hair spray)

Specific spas may also have other exotic things like deluge showers, outdoor gardens, fireplaces, etc. Sometimes the amenities will vary slightly between the men's area and women's area.

Most of the higher-end hotels put a lot of money into the design of their spa areas to create a sense of luxury and relaxation. They incorporate natural wood, stone, leather, carefully placed lighting, and pipe in relaxing music and scents.

Whether or not it's worth it depends on if you are going to really take advantage of everything that is offered. I find it to be a good value if I need a place to take a few hours to relax and unwind without interruption.

Kelly

My boyfriend and I are on vacation at Virginia Beach. The hotel we are staying at has an indoor pool, hot tub, game room, ect. I've been awake for the past hour, not having anything to do.. and he's still sleeping. If I don't get him up, he will end up sleeping all day long. Any suggestions on how to get him up and keep him up?! Otherwise, he will just roll over in the opposite direction.

Answer
Go to the front desk and ask for a five gallon plastic bucket. Go to the ice machine and fill the bucket half full of ice cubes. Fill the bucket the rest of the way with cold water in the shower. Wait 10 minutes. Turn the air conditioner in the room to full blast and remove all the bedsheets from on top of him, then pour the bucket over him starting at the head and moving down the body. This should be done in one swift dumping motion. Run like hell.
You do realize I"m kidding, I hope. Let the poor guy sleep, go sightseeing by yourself (leave a note) and enjoy your vacation. I'm jealous, there's snow on the ground here in Michigan.

Who has the best hot tub room in Reno?

public wat

I'm looking to book a hotel room (probably at a casino) and a necessity is an in room spa, hot tub, or jacuzzi tub. Where should I stay?

Answer
The two nicest hotels on the "strip" (Virginia Street) in Reno are Silver Legacy and Eldorado. So it's likely that one of those two properties will have the best hot tub rooms.

Is there anyplace in Southern California that has hot springs in the snow?

Raeann

i want to go on vacation and i don't know where to go and i love hot springs and the snow so what better would it be to have both?

Answer
There's not much snow in Southern California.

My favorite place for hot springs is Sycamore Mineral Springs. It's in Avila Beach just south of San Luis Obispo. Each room as its own private jacuzzi with hot mineral water. If you aren't staying at the resort, they have hourly rates for hot mineral tubs that are outdoor and private. Reasonable rates!

How does a person maintain a hot tub?

Celtic Pea

What are the normal procedures?

Answer
I used to have an outdoor jacuzzi . .and I now have an indoor jacuzzi tub.
With the outdoor jacuzzi, I had to maintain it just like a swimming pool. The water has to be kept purified. We floated a chlorinator in it. Or sometimes we put in powdered chlorine. It's essentially a small swimming pool and you must treat it accordingly. Monitor the pH level too, with a kit designed for that purpose.

With the indoor tub, I run bleach water through the jets occasionally (I fill the tub to the jets, and dump in about 2 cups bleach and run the jets for about a minute.

Just moved from Ft. Lauderdale to Philadelphia and am wondering if there are any helpful beauty (mainly skin and hair) hints to surviving the winter. I've got very sensitive skin, prone to blotchiness, and hair that is leaning towards the "fine" category.

Answer
â¢It is time to get out the heavy-duty moisturizers. A highly protective day-care cream with appropriate SPF is an essential barrier to protect your skin against the elements
â¢Creamy, water-in-oil emulsions are best as they hydrate your skin while also protecting them from loss of moisture in the cold winds.
â¢Chapped lips are most noticeable in winter. Use a moisturizing lip balm with vitamin E in it if you want to avoid looking like you have some dreadful, peeling skin disorder.Keep reapplying the balm with a chap-stick throughout the day.
â¢Exfoliate! Dead Cells tend to pile up in winter and prevent the moisturizer from getting to the healthy skin. The oils in the skin are being produced at a lesser rate than in summer and due to this, skin tends to lose water that would otherwise have been retained in the lower dermis of the skin.
â¢Dry skin can cause premature aging and fine lines can begin to appear in improperly cared for skin.
â¢Detoxify your system with plenty of water. If you feel it difficult to gulp down room temperature water, heat your water and take it with a twist of lemonâa sort of watered-down version of lemon tea.
â¢Everyone loves to cuddle up and sleep, burrowing under a pile of warm and toasty blankets while the temperature outside keeps dropping. Ensure you get your beauty sleepâ7 h is decent if you cannot manage the full 8 or the luxurious 9 h in winter nights.
â¢Sun protection is essential now as the outdoor weather conditions are such that moisture is invariably lost from the skin. Natural sunscreens featuring moisturizing ingredients such as aloe vera, cocoa butter and herbal oils can further protect your skin.
â¢Moisturize as frequently as possible. Indoor and outdoor conditions are drier in winter and alternating a heavier emollient with a lighter emollient can have your skin feeling cared for while not having to deal with the greasy feeling.
â¢Creams and lotions with Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic or lactic acid, can be effective in reversing dry skin and lines at deeper levels.
â¢Alternate different products every few days, for example, once a week, so that your body is exposed to differing levels of support and does not settle into a fixed routine that may not be very beneficial in the longer term.
â¢Dual-purpose moisturizers act by moisturizing and providing sun protection. Most of them also contain antioxidant ingredients which counter the free-radical damage caused by the winter sun.
â¢It would be best to avoid clay-based masks in winter as they tend to dry skin further in winter. Opting for masks that are specially designed for winter or for dry skin are ideal for winter.
â¢Natural soaps or herbal soaps with high fat content are good for the skin in winter as they care for dry skin.
â¢Tub baths should be avoided as they can cause drying of the skin and showers should be taken with tepid, not hot, water.
â¢Avoid vigorous and too frequent scrubbing with washcloths in winter as this can further damage and irritate dry skin.
â¢Apply moisturizer onto towel-dried skin immediately after emerging from a shower as this locks more water into your skin.
â¢While shaving in winter, use a moisturizing gel rather than soap and remember to moisturize your legs well immediately afterward.
â¢Rubber gloves will need to be worn while washing dishes or using harsh cleaning agents to avoid further chemical damage.
â¢Keep a bottle of hand lotion handy and apply after washing your hands.
â¢Winter time also sees the exacerbation or outbreaks of itchy skin or Eczema. Avoid the use of soap if this happens and try to use natural emollients such as olive oil or moisturizers with herbal oils such as tea-tree oil.
â¢If feet tend to be neglected in winter and need extra attention. Ensure that socks and shoes fit properly and dust your feet with non-irritating talc before enclosing them in socks and footwear for the day.

I wouldn't be TOO worried about your hair. Thick hair is actually worse, as it gets dried out easily. But just make sure not too wash too much. Buy shampoos for dry hair.
