My husband and I are currently stationed in Turkey and they have a store like Home Depot that is selling a combination computerized jacuzzi shower sauna hot tub. It also has a radio and lights which means it is wired with 220v not 110v like the states. If we do buy it, is it easy to change it from 220v to 110v?

Answer
Not unless you get the power requirements converted. Turkey uses 220volt, 50 Hz system, just like Europe. We use 110v, 60 Hz.....

It's not so much the voltage, but the Hertz cycle that will be the problem. In the US, the lectricity pulses at 60 times per minute, hence 60 Hz, 50 Hz means let pulses, so it would probably burn out if used here in the states.
I think by the time everyone could or would be switched out, you'd be better off just buyig an American model.

p.s. one thing to check, it may be one of those products that are made for dual use. You just slide a switch from the European to American standard. It's designed internally for both. My wife and I bought dual-voltage during our time in Europe, and it saved a lot of frustration and money.

How much does it cost to change an outlet from 110v to 220v?

I have a q

Thinking about getting a hot tub but need to change my electical outlet first. Does anyone know the average price for rewiring to change the voltage? Also, are there any external converters that don't require rewiring that can be bought and easily set up?

Answer
I'll address the second question first. There are no converters that you can use to change 110V to 220V for a hot tub. Cutting the voltage in half doubles the required amperage, so a device that pulls 15 amps at 240V will need 30 amps at 120V. You will need a separate 240V 50A GFCI protected circuit for the tub, so you will need to get an electrician to pull it for you. How much depends on a number of factors-distance from panel, available spaces in panel, number of walls to drill through, if the line needs to be buried and for what distance, etc. Call a few contractors-most will give free estimates. Good luck.
