Going on a honeymoon in Orlando, Fl and need to know some very romantic day spas. Looking for one that has everything. Champagne, strawberries, hot tub, couples massage, manicure, pedicure, ect. PLEASE HELP?

Answer
The Grand Floridian disney Hotel has one. and their hotel Saratoga Springs. Both offer couples massages. Check www.intercot.com under info central to find our more info on their spa services.

Why is my hot tub tripping my GFCI?

TimeDivide

Tub is a 10 year old SAR200 Adelphi from Saratoga Spa. This is a 240 gallon 240V / 50A spa.
Tub was purchased used from craigslist and was in working order when purchased. Transported approximately 30 miles via uhual. Tub was jarred a bit during transit but did not sustain any major damage on inspection.

Wiring from Spa >>> GFCI Subpanel >>> house was done by an electrician / spa expert friend of mine and I have no reason to believe the wiring was not done correctly.

Tub Was filled with water from garden hose. House is on well water and this water was not filtered in any way and so a significant amount of sand got into the tub. Tub powered up, all systems functional and heated up properly. Filter appeared to clear the majority of the sand out, though it did require several cleanings of the filters.

After 2 days of flawless operation, GFCI tripped during use. Troubleshooting isolated the problem to the circulator pump circuit, as when this is removed from spa pack, system does not trip gfci. Further troubleshooting isolated the tripping to when the heater kicks on, as if I set the thermostat below the tub temp, system will run with circ pump plugged into spa pack, but immediately shuts down if I raise the thermostat above current water temp.

Disassembling the heater reveals a healthy looking heating coil, all connections to spa pack circuit board are solid, all fuses for heater appear healthy. Also, when connected the heater light comes on indicating there is power to the heating coil.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Are the Circulator and the Heater Typically on the same Circuit? Or does the circulator pump work harder when the heater is on? All suggestions welcome.
The Spa is on it's own dedicated circuit. 8 Guage Wire from my Main Box (200 Amp Service) on a 50A breaker out to a 50A GFCI Sub Panel Out to the Spa Pack.
Also, I should reiterate the tripping is not random. It trips only when the circulator pump is plugged into the spa pack, and even then only when the heater kicks on.

Thanks Again for all insights.
Update: Completely took apart the circ pump and flushed out the in / out lines with filtered water. Circ pump appears in good shape inside and out.

...However once I had reassembled it, I realized that there is a screw that might be a grounding screw, and it is currently not connected to ground. The lable next to the screw says to use wire rated for 90c. Am I correct to assume this is a grounding screw? Theres a ground bar near the spa pack where the Jet Pump seems to be grounded, should I run a wire from my circ pump to this ground bar and power up?
Update: Attempting to ground the circ pump did not solve the problem...it must be grounded through it's connection to the spa pack.

I am still unsure if it is the circ pump or the heater that need to be replaced...looking for ideas on how to narrow this down.

Answer
Sounds like you've already limited the problem to the heater. It's a GFCI protected circuit that works fine till the heater kicks in, so there is most likely a ground short in the heater. You can check this by first removing power, then checking continuity to ground right at the heater. that should tell you that there IS a short there and even though the heater *appears* to be ok, it does indeed have a ground short. That would be my guess based on everything else you've already done.

By the way, nice post. You had all the information needed unlike many of the questions that get posted here. I'd rather read through 100 questions like this (well explained) than even one of the "it's broke, what do I do" type that we see all the time.
