I am 21 and figured my breakouts would have stopped by now. All the clearasil and acne creams just bring out my pimples and make my face irritated and dry! And to top that I have oily skin. Oily, flaky skin is no fun when you are going out and need to put make up on....help :o) Thanks

You might try an oatmeal facial. Make a flour out of oatmeal using a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender. Put about a tablespoon in the palm of your hand, mix with hot water to make a dry paste, apply to your face, allow to dry/partially dry on your face, peel off into a waste basket, then rinse with water.

The best oatmeal to use is one with the least amount of processing, which is also the longest cooking, so that it still retains some of its natural oils. This facial peel will exfoliate which is often a good thing. It also tends to draw on the acne, pick up oils, and yet not overly dry out the skin. If you find that it is drying out your face, don't allow it to dry as long before removing.

For some reason, this seems to sooth the skin and reduce further occurrences. For a while, we used this on a guy friend with oily skin working in an oily environment and it did a number on most of his black heads too; it didn't do the trick on the big and deep ones. I would begin with once a week or so and see how it works.

I knew one gal who used to use a regular, white, wheat-flour paste on particular zits to draw and dry them up without doing the squeezing thing. Sometimes it back fired because it effectively dried up the end of the pore making that zit worse. There are a number of commercially available, clay type remedies that are suppose to do the same while leaving beneficial "mineral goodies" behind.

One of the problems with some of the acne solutions is that they work to remove and cut through the oil on the skin. In turn, the skin dries out and gets flaky while working double time to produce replacement oil. The oil and the skin particles get stuck in the pores and then the vicious cycle repeats. Another solution for some, particularly in the summer, is to wear less face make-up and simply splash tap water across their face then pat dry a couple of times per day. Others use purified water and cotton balls to gently wash their face a couple of times per day. The goal of this is to gently wash away some of the oil and grime picked up during the day. (If you want to test the power of your face regime, use a white cotton ball and some witch hazel, a powerful astringent, to wash your face. If you are picking up darkness on the cotton ball, then you have evidence of the grime you have left on your face and clogging your pores. Witch hazel is a strong astringent that should not be used on dry skin except for the grime test.)

You might also want to review the soaps that you are using on your face. This includes both your general bathing soap as well as your shampoo. In particular, antibacterial soap is very drying and some claim can lead to a number of skin related issues in general; many soft soaps and shower gels are antibacterial. Many "good for your skin" or scented soaps will leave a residue. Do you use a cream rinse or other hair product that may be leaving a residue on your face? In general, we think that when we step out of the shower or tub, we are squeaky clean. - Try the witch hazel grime test when in your squeaky clean state. You might be surprised. -

Face make-up can be a double edged sword. You "need" it to cover up the acne and on the other hand, it often acts to clog pores thus generating acne. I tend to have dry skin but when I use face make-up, I use one for oily skin. For me, it causes fewer problems, goes on more translucently, and when it melts does so without turning into rivulets. I also like to use swishes of powders on the face for daily use as opposed to face make-up; again my skin is happier for it.

I went into a hot tub with less chmicals then it needs, now i have zits all over!?

A mild case of spa pool folliculitis (pseudomonas folliculitis) is a bacteria, as you found out, that comes from sharing warm, improperly disinfected water. It is a bacterial infection, it will usually clear up, untreated, in a healthy person in a week to ten days. It is possible that it may branch around for a number of weeks. If accompanied with an associated tickle or if it appears to be especially aggressive getting worse instead of better, immediately consult your physician.
Health food stores carry Tea Tree oil and soaps that can help. If you are not allergic to bee products, a ten day regimen of bee propolis (a natural anti-biotic) may be helpful.
