Im planning to go at the end of august... correct me if im wrong but wouldnt it be cold... all other cruises i went on were to tropical countries but more than 3/4 the time was spent out on the deck... 1/4 was spent sleeping in my cabin.. i guessing 4/4 the times going to be spent inside? doing what, except sleeping... =\
hahaha thanks im actually going down there with my bf... it just doesnt seem appealing but if its warm then by all means... seeing some of the pictures on the internet with people with their winter coats while on the deck dosnt seem appealing at all.

Answer
Yes, you ARE wrong, it is NOT cold in Alaska in August. I have been to Alaska twice, once on business for two weeks and then on a cruise tour. The daily temperatures when I was in Anchorage for 2 weeks was in the mid 70's every day. Remember at that time of year Alaska has about 20 hours of sun every day. People in Anchorage and Fairbanks were walking around in shorts and "T" shirts.

During the cruise from Vancouver north it was chilly on deck in some places when there was a lot of ocean breeze. Most people had a light jacket, hoodie, or sweater for that. At night you are almost always inside a temperature controlled environment, from the dining room, casino, show room, disco, lounges, etc, its NOT cold. In addition, most ships that do an Alaska itinerary have a solarium, a covered pool and hot tub area, in addition to the regular outdoor pool. So you can use both almost any time. The ship will also have gym and maybe also steam and sauna rooms.

You Can expect it to be rainy in a couple places, Juneau and Ketchkan, but not cold. The places where it WILL BE cold and where you will see people with coats, jackets, hats and gloves on, is near the glaciers. Our cruise went to College Fjord where there are about 6 glacier and it was cold all of the time while we were there. We also visited another glacier and it was cold there also. BUT, when you are at those locations you do not have to go outside on deck to see. There will be plenty of places inside where you can sit or stand to see outside.

So no, it will not be cold except in those few locations.
